Speaker: Eric Prager, Wellness Expert.
Eric has more than 30 years of experience in physiology, excercise physiology, sports performance, and sports management. He has been able to help a wide demographic of patients from young athletes striving to go professional, to paraplegics, and elderly patients. He gave a great presentation focusing on building a healthy and strong lifestyle through daily habits that support long-term wellness. One of the speaker’s key takeaway points was defining the difference between healthspan and lifespan. Rather than only focusing on how long we live, he encouraged the audience to think about the quality of those years by asking, “What do you want your life to look like?” This is an important question to contemplate when making choices about both health and lifestyle.
The best thing we can do is to continue incorporating movement breaks or what Eric likes to call "movement snacks" in our every day life. We should be aiming for 7,000–10,000 steps daily to improve overall health, energy, and mobility. The speaker also described yoga as a “fountain of youth” because of its benefits for flexibility, balance, strength, and stress reduction.
Another key point was nutrition and hydration - Ginger and turmeric were discussed as natural ways to help reduce inflammation in the body. Eric encourages eating onions, garlic, and peppers every day because of their health-supporting nutrients and antioxidants. He also explainined that proper hydration includes three key components: fluids, carbohydrates, and electrolytes to help the body function and recover effectively. He recommended himalayan sea salt, Nuun tablets, and LMNT for electrolyte replacement options. Thank you Eric for this wonderful presentation and the wonderful tips on how to stay healthy.
The meeting closed with the Four (Five) Way Test.
