Board of Directors Mtg Brief ... by Mary Giroux
Your Board of Directors met on Thursday, February 19, 2026
Attendees: Andy Stevens, Mary Giroux, Evie Schaffer, Jay Stith, Bill Buterbaugh, Brad Wilson
Minutes: Minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
Financials: Jay reported on Foundation financials which remain in good shape.  There is a potential student for the Karen Price scholarship for 2026/2027.  Interviews are under way.
Worthy Causes: Tim Kelly from the Auburn Rotary Club presented a global grant opportunity for our club to consider.  It is to provide funds to the Benjamin House Ministries in Kampala, Uganda so they can scale up their program to support more residential students.  It includes purchase and installation of a septic bio-digester as well as equipment to teach trades.  The Board vote was tabled until after Tim’s presentation to club membership at our general meeting.
A donation to Scout Troop 61 was discussed.  Mary will discuss this with Dave Lee to find out what their specific needs are this year.
A donation to WRVO was approved.
Pancake Breakfast:  Ticket prices of $5 for children and $10 for adults were approved.  This is a “no change.”  Bill brought up the fact that the breakfast leadership team (Bill B, Mary, Chuck O and Ed Evans) are aging and that duties will need to be transitioned to other members at some point in the future.  The current team has been managing the event for many years.  There was also a discussion on how we can publicize all that our club does for the community at the breakfast.
Membership: Thomas and Lorena Billone were approved for club membership.  They are sponsored by Ed Evans.  The new member notice will be posted in the upcoming newsletter.
Andy presented a document outlining member expectations by the club.  It provides a good summary of what members are expected to contribute to the club including attendance, participation in service projects and financial obligations.  Andy will send the draft to Board members for suggested changes/additions.
Paul Harris Discussion: Andy proposed that upon induction into the club new members receive 100 Paul Harris points from the Club’s point inventory to encourage new members to work toward a Paul Harris award.  A vote will be taken.
Other Business:  Brad will be attending President Elect training in March and let us know that we are able to get a discount on Rotary supplies through that event.  Mary will take stock of inventory to see what we need.
Next meeting: April 4, 2026

Front Desk Duty!!!
Lori Ruhlman and Lee Bennett  are the scheduled front desk members for our next club meeting on March 5th. Remember that if you will not be able to attend the meeting you are scheduled for it is your responsibility to find a replacement.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace Service Project"  heart
We had a great crew show up for Saturday's service project!  Bill B, Ed, Jay, Doug, Brad, Marv, Jeff, Larry, Andy and Mary all showed up to build beds for kids that don't have one.  We all acquired new skills including sanding, staining, drilling and assembly.  Pictured here are some happy bed builders!!

February 19, 2026 Meeting
President Andy opened the meeting by welcoming our guest Tim Kelly from the Auburn Rotary Club.
The following are announcements:
  • "Sleep in Heavenly Peace" service project is at the mall in Auburn on Saturday, Feb 21.
  • Andy thanked Evie and Bill B for a great Happy hour at the Legion.
  • Andy reminded us that there is no meeting next week (the 26th) and that Sheri Dove will be speaking about Operation Xmas Hope for Veterans at our March 5th meeting.
Tim Kelly, fellow Rotarian from the Auburn club filled us in on their global grant.  Working with a club in Uganda, the grant is to provide funds to Benjamin House.  Benjamin House works with young boys, teaching them a trade such as auto mechanics, welding and carpentry. The goal of the grant is to scale up the program to support more residential students, both boys and girls.  This includes the purchase and installation of a septic bio-digester as well as equipment to teach trades and purchase tools that students can use to launch their vocations.  Tim asked that our club consider participating in the grant.
Andy thanked our speaker Tim Kelly, as well as the entire staff at the Sherwood. The meeting ended with Tim Kelly leading us in the Four (Five) Way Test.
