Minutes: Minutes of the previous meeting were approved.
Road Sign Update: Andy reported that an updated quote for five signs was provided by Skaneateles Laser Graphics. Camera ready art is needed.
Youth Exchange Update: Lee Bennett and Lori Ruhlman have been exploring options. There is an abbreviated exchange program sponsored by Rotary. Andy will discuss this with Lee and ask for a presentation to the club.
Financials: Dillon reported that dues are coming in but there are about a dozen members who have not paid yet. Venmo was discussed as a payment option and Dillon said that he would investigate adding the QR code to the next billing.
Worthy Causes: The following Worthy Causes was approved:

A special “Legacy Fund” request from Linda Roche for the Skaneateles Lake Association was discussed but was tabled until the next Board meeting when Jay will be reporting on Foundation financials.
Upcoming Service Projects:
Library Booksale Cleanup on Monday, August 17th at 4:30 at 75 Fennell Street. Mary is coordinating this effort.
Firemen’s Field Days Clams and Corn – One hour shifts on September 5 and 6. Bill B is coordinating this effort.
Duck Dash – This year the event will be held on September 26. Jay and Dillon are currently working with the Chamber to solicit sponsors via email.
Highway Cleanup – Up in the air for now.
Finger Lakes SPCA Food Drive – Planned for October 24. There was discussion about purchasing a Rotary pop up tent for events such as this to give our club more visibility.
Election Day meals for poll workers.
Officers for 2026/2027: One additional Board member is needed to complete the slate of Board members
100th Club Anniversary: A meeting will be held after the Aug 6th club meeting.

Aug 6, 2026 Meeting
Brad Wilson opened the meeting by leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Announcements:
- August Happy Hour: Craig and Barb Froelich will again be hosting Happy Hour at their beautiful lake house on August 13th from 5:30 to 6:30. Be sure to bring an appetizer to share. The address is 101 West Lake St. This is also a great opportunity to bring any prospective members!
- Next Service Project: Come help Mary pack up the unsold books from the Library Book Sale on Monday Aug 17th at 4:30 pm. The location is at 75 Fennel Street.
- Clams and Corn: B passed around a signup sheet for our annual Clams and Corn service at the Labor Day weekend Firemen's Field Days. Contact Bill to sign up or sign up at our August 20th meeting.
- Next Meeting: We will welcome speakers from Francis House, the hospice in Syracuse, at our next meeting on August 20th.
Our Speaker: Chuck Williams, our most senior and longest club member, gave us a great presentation on how he served during World War II at the tender age of 14. After Chuck finished telling us about some of his youthful shenanigans he got down to business and explained the display of plane models that he crafted as a young boy. After the US entered the war youngsters were recruited to build model planes out of wood that replicated actual planes. These were used in the training of pilots so that they could distinguish between friend or enemy planes. Chuck built a number of models which he had on display. After about six months the auto industry began producing models by the injection molding process which could produce greater quantities. Thanks to Chuck for telling us about another little-known way that US citizens supported the war efforts!
Youth Exchange Officer – primarily paperwork and relationship management. Would be busiest in the fall (august to November) with arrival of inbound and recruitment of outbound starting.
With a good team this could be 2 - 4 hours a week
Inbound Program Manager – assist with paperwork in the Spring for enrollment and reception of student. Work on host family recruitment with YEO and committee at large.Work with club counselor while the student is here. Busiest in Spring (paperwork), early fall (student arrival), periodically through the school year with inbound student, and host family recruitment.
With a good team this would probably average out to an hour a week but probably 2 - 4 hours a week during busy times.
Outbound Program Manager – work on recruitment of local students for youth exchange. Meet with students and their parents to see if YE is a good fit. Coordinate and run local interviews, ensure student application/paperwork is sufficient, prepare for District interviews, oversee scholarship program. Busiest in the fall.
Would likely average 2 -4 hours a week during busy weeks (mid-September) then off and on through mid-November with a spike in January/February for 1 – 2 weeks for the scholarship
Club Counselor – primary point of contact for inbound student while here. Help them acclimate, route issues to Inbound program manager/YEO… potentially District
Would likely average 2 – 3 hours a month during the school year. If there is an issue with could spike, though.
2 generalists – assist with student rides to events, general help with host families (recruitment and processing), join in on interviews (outbound and scholarship)
Would be mostly ad hoc. Rides can be a few hours depending on where the event is, but everything else should only be a couple hours at a time
All volunteers need to fill out an online application. They all need to submit to a background check, complete online training + pass exam, and in-person training annually.
President Lizzy Martin sent a message saying the main CNY Rotary Facebook page was shut down by Facebook so everything has been moved to a new group called CNY Rotary News Network. Please check out the new facebook page! This is where everything from the news network, leadership team, and events are shared.
