Auburn Rotary's 10th - Bill Conole briefly reported on the Auburn Rotary Club’s 100th Celebration that he attended last Sunday with Ward & June Vuillemot. Bill noted that the Auburn Club’s first project in 1915 was to line up transportation for Civil War Veterans for the Memorial Day Parade. In 1928 the Auburn Club became our “parent” club. Today the Auburn Club is as vibrant as ever.
District Conference Event - Jim Lanning reported on plans for our District Conference. The YE students from around our district will help prepare the holes to plant three trees in Austin Park.  The SHS Interact club will assist in placing and planting trees.  The dedication will take place at 1:30 PM, Saturday the 25th.
Bartek to see the USA - Our exchange student Bartek asked club members to help him raise money for this June’s Exchange Student USA Tour. Bartek is willing to almost any type of work for club members to earn money for the tour.
Program - the travels of Rotarian, Once Removed- - Our speaker Kyle McQuiggan was a star lacrosse player for SCHS & for Union College. His brother spent a year in Chile as a Rotary Exchange student. This sparked Kyle’s interest in Latin America. Kyle started his tour in Lima Peru. En route to Chile Kyle visited Lake Titicaca, the highest lake in the Western Hemisphere. Kyle traveled extensively through Peru, Chile, Argentina & Uruguay. By traveling by bus, Kyle was able to meet the local people in the countries he visited. Kyle saved money by staying in hostels. Thanks to his careful planning & his frugality, Kyle was able to tour everal countries for several weeks for only $6,000.

BOOKS FOR ALL AGES - During the past week, Skaneateles Rotarians have gleaned, sorted and packed books for all ages, to be shipped to third world destinations through the Books for the World organization.  Pictured are Chuck Williams and Roberta Williams (the Williams twins) who packed collage textbooks, gleaned by Ward from the U. of Binghamton.  They are standing next to a pallet of Primary and Middle school library books gleaned for the Skaneateles Middle and State Street Schools, which were packed by Bill Conole and Ward late last week.  Included are comprehensive primary school tests booklets, from Michigan, supplied by Chuck Williams.  Kudos also go to the other Rotarians (Bill C., John M., Robin J., Bill S.) who volunteered to assist Monday, but were not needed.  World Community Service, at its best.  .....  by Ward Vuillemot, Head Booklegger
