Little Free Library - comes to Skaneateles
A collaboration effort between the Skaneateles Liberary and the Skaneateles Rotary Club has resulted in our community's first Little Free Library located at the entrance of the Skaneateles Conservation Area, on the Seneca Turnpike.  The Little Free Library "Take a Book .. Share a Book" is nation wide project that continues to grow across our land with the objective of sharing books within our communities.  To learn more about this wonderful literacy project ;an how you might participate, visit their website at: https://littlefreelibrary.org
Pictured is the first Little Free Library constructed by Gary Ozminkowski and painted by Jim McQuiggan and placed with the help of Doug Powell.   The Skaneateles Library will keep it stocked, as needed, on a weekly basis.

LAST WEEK ... by Mary Giroux
The Beginnings:
Little Free Library - President Doug opened the meeting and reported that the Little Free Library built by Gary Ozminkowski was installed at the Conservation Area on Old Seneca Turnpike by Gary O, and Doug & Cathy Powell.  The book box will be stocked by the library and you can take a book and/or leave a book.  Thanks to Gary, Doug and Cathy!  Our club has committed to build another Little Free Library for installation at the Owasco Market on Gahwiler Road.  Mary Giroux will coordinate this project.
District Conference - Doug reminded us about the District Conference which will be a one day event  in Oswego during the month of October.  Further details to follow.
The Program Community Services provided by the Salvation Army
James Wanamaker introduced our speaker for the evening, Linda Lopez, Executive Director of Community Services for the Salvation Army.
Linda gave us a brief history of the Salvation Army which was founded in England in the 1800's in response to frustration with the Church's lack of assistance to those in need.  In 1865 the Syracuse branch which is the largest in the eastern United States was begun.  With an annual budget of $18 million the Salvation Army serves over 40,0000 people in the area each year.  Linda spoke about services including daycare services for children, family advocacy services, mental health services, drop in day care for Family Court attendees, emergency services, food services, veteran services, youth services and senior services.  A brief video highlighting the new residence for women in need was shown as well as a video of the annual Christmas Distribution which utilizes 1000 volunteers, a massive operation.
Linda expressed the Salvation Army's gratitude to the club for our annual bell ringing and said that there are many ways our club can be involved in helping.
50-50 -  Was won by Doug Powell; however, the queen remains hidden in the deck.
Guests Linda Lopez from the Salvation Army and our good friend and prospective new member Terry McCormack
