LAST MEETING, Oct 17, 2024 …. by Katie Brown
THE BEGINNING: Bill Buterbaugh led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and welcomed our guests:  Dan Fisher and John Copely
ANNNOUNCEMENTS:
> Hope Conference: Lori talked briefly about the Hope Conference on behalf of Sharon O'Connell which will be happening on Saturday, October 19th. It will be from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn. This conference is a part of a series of roundtable discussions on "how the science of hope can change your life." Speakers at this event include Dr. Barbara Connor, Dr. Karim-Aly Kassam, and Elijah Murphy.
> Switch of Meeting and No Meeting Dates: Bill reminded us that there will be a meeting next week on October 24th due to halloween falling on the 5th Thursday of the month this year. The speaker will be the manager of our Skaneateles club endowment account.
> Meeting November 7th: Bill reminded the club that there will be a Board meeting at 5:00 pm on November 7 with the regular scheduled meeting occuring right after at 6:30 pm. The speaker at this meeting is going to be the person in charge of the Onondaga County Development.
> Craig Froelich Recovery Update: Bill said Craig is recovering well after his rotator cuff surgery!
> Thank Yous: Bill gave a thank you to all the Sherwod staff.
THE PROGRAM:  Tom Fernadez of the Woodbine Hospitality Group
Prior to the meeting, Tom (from the Woodbine Hospitality Group) and Kyle (the General Contractor of the project) gave Rotarians a tour and explained the vision of the much-anticipated hotel being built near Mottville Road. The name of this hotel will be the Skaneateles Lodge, which will include a total of 89 rooms. This will also be a part of the Curio Collection by Hilton and we learned the Curio brand of Hilton is known to be food and drink centered. There will be a marketplace partnership with Tap Root Farms but they are also open to partnering with other local vendors as well. Within the lobby there will be a breakfast bar, which transforms into a high-end cocktail bar with a mixologist in the evening. Along with many areas to sit, there will be a “Field to table” restaurant called “Fields” where they plan to showcase at least one locally grown element into each dish. Just down the lobby hallway there will be a “Library” with a “Nightcap Club” which will be divided so groups of people can sample high-end wine and spirits.
Besides being food and drink centered, this new hotel also offers several different wellness and leisure activities which are included in the stay. This includes a fitness center, pickleball courts, spa, and a total of 7 pools (1 indoor pool, 1 outdoor pool, 4 hot tubs, and 1 cold plunge pool).  For the local community, this hotel also brings more scenic hiking trails to walk in the area, wildflower fields to take in, and the potential for community memberships to hot yoga sessions and use of the pickleball courts.
In terms of accommodations, guests will be able to choose to stay either in standard rooms or suites. Standard rooms will include a king-size bed or two queen-size beds. There will also be six suites available to stay with some suites being family-friendly, which includes a full kitchen. There will also be two suites that are romance centered, which includes fine luxuries likes a fireplace and jacuzzi style tube. Finally, there will be a two-bedroom presidential suite which includes a full kitchen. All rooms include high end features such as true hardwood on the walls and furniture from Artistry in Wood located in Syracuse. It is anticipated that they will need 175-200 employees to run this hotel once every aspect is fully up and running. The anticipated grand opening for the Skaneateles Lodge will be April 2025 (late Q1 or early Q2).
THE ENDING-  John O'Sullivan led us in the (Four + one) Five Way Test

CNY ROTARY PRESIDENT'S OFFICIAL TALK
With more than 110 clubs in CNY, the regional President will not be able to visit every club individually to deliver the traditional talk with messages from Rotary International. President Lizzy has pre-recorded this talk in a video . It features information about our annual theme, The Magic of Rotary, our RI President Stephanie's priorities for the year, and a preview of what to expect in our newly expanded region. BACK IN THE DAY ... Ward
SRC Halloween Parties - For many years ,prior to the HS Haunted Hallways sponsored by the Interact Club, SRC held a yearly event for children at the St. Street School.  Donuts (supplied by Skaneateles Bakery) and cider were served to the many tricker-treaters & parents who stopped by during there rounds.  It included custom judging and prizes for numerous  categories.  These pictures represent just a sampling of the many St. Street Halloween parties,

Matthew's Auto Annual Walkathon
There was a small group of us that completed the 2 mile walkathon on October 5th. We could not have asked for a better day weather wise as it was a sunny and warm fall day. The walk started at the First Presbyterian Church and ended at the Sherwood Inn with some hot coffee and pastries. The proceeds to this event went to Golisano’s Childrens’ Hospital.
Happy Hour on the Judge Ben
Rotarians enjoyed this annual happy hour trip aboard the Judge Ben. It was brisk fall day but the company, drinks, and hot butternut squash soup from the Sherwood kept us warm. Everyone brought a special appetizer or dish to share including sandwiches, pumpkin bread, and cupcakes to name a few. The happy hour concluded with a beautiful sunset over Skaneateles Lake. A special thanks to Mid Lakes Navigation and Ed Evans for setting up with this wonderful happy hour!
Holiday Basket Dinner
Well, it's not even Halloween yet but we need to start planning for the Holiday Basket Dinner.  Basic details as follows:
> Date is Thursday, December 5th
> Purpose is to raise funds for local food pantries and Skaneateles Outreach
>How it works:  Invite guests to share a table of 8 or 10 at the Country Club.  Meal expense is expected to be $45.  Cash bar and Silent Auction.  After dinner guests are invited to make a contribution to the Holiday Basket effort.
>Let Marv Langley know if you can help chair the event, organize the Silent Auction or solicit sponsors for the event.
More information to follow but we need everyone's participation and help putting this event together.  It takes a Club!
