PRESIDENTS' CORNER ... by Pres., Bill Conole
2018 - As 2018 draws to a close our club can take pride in our many achievements & the way our members continue to serve our community. Our two major fundraisers were big successes. This year we celebrated the 50th Skaneateles Rotary Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast. Our 2018 Annual Christmas benefit dinner raised over $13,000 for our local food pantries. This year’s Women’s Day Dinner raised a record amount of money to support women’s causes. Thanks to our members teamwork & giving spirit all of our club’s major events & fundraisers continued to run smoothly & to meet our club goals.
2019 - This year our club celebrates the ninety second anniversary of our founding. This represents about four generations of Skaneateles Rotarians serving our community since 1927. I know all of us want our club to continue to be the vibrant part of this community it is today. That’s why sustainability is the operative word for 2019. To ensure our club’s sustainability all of us must make every effort to draw new members into our club. So, this must be our collective goal for 2019.
To all of our Skaneateles Rotarians & their families I wish you a Happy New Year with the hope that you & your families will have many blessings in the year to come.
LAST WEEK... by Mary Giroux
It was a festive group of Rotarians, spouses and guests at the Club's Christmas dinner.
A few business items were covered:
John Moran noted that there are a few open slots for bell ringing.
Cheryl Silvestrini reminded us that Club 200 raffle tickets are still available.
Ward drew the winning ticket for a beautifully crafted Christmas ornament for the "I found it" contest. Cheryl Silvestrini was the lucky winner.
President Bill told the store of Dicken's past, present and future.
After a delicious meal and dessert Club members sang Christmas carols led by Danny Roche.
The room was filled with a feeling of warmth and friendship.

DID YOU KNOW?
CURFEW
The word "curfew" comes from the French phrase "couvre-feu", which means "cover the fire". It was used to describe the time of blowing out all lamps and candles It was later adopted into Middle English as "curfeu", which later became the modern "curfew". In the early American colonies homes had no real fireplaces so a fire was built in the center of the room. In order to make sure a fire did not get out of control during the night it was required that, by an agreed upon time, all fires would be covered with a clay pot called-a "curfew".
RING THE BELL- Our annual Salvation Army Kettle project, at the Tops Market commences Friday, December 7th. The schedule can be found on our WEBSITE by going the the Site Pages on the left side of the Home page, or CLICK HERE. If you have not yet had an opportunity to sign-up for a time slot, contact John Moran (685-8440), or the sign-up sheet will be at this and next week’s meetings.
A great project that supports those in our community in need .... and .... to meet and greet your Skaneateles friends, while providing Service Above Self while serving your community. Check the schedule .
200 Club Fundraiser... by Cheryl
It may not be as exciting as cracking eggs or flipping pancakes, but the “200 Club” Raffle is an easy way to raise money to benefit community and youth groups. Here’s how it works: we sell 200 tickets at $20 each for a total of $4,000. We give away $1250 in prizes which leaves us with $2750 to use for worthy causes.
We will sell tickets starting 10/18/18. Two $50 prizes will be drawn at our Club Meetings on 12/13, 12/20, 1/3, 1/10 & 1/17. On 1/10, we will draw a $250 winner, as well as the $500 Grand Prize winner. Also, all weekly winners will be put back into the raffle and be eligible for the Grand Prize!
We need to sell all 200 tickets for this raffle to work as outlined, so please consider selling at least 5 tickets to family, friends, co-workers, etc. – and don’t forget to buy your own! Cheryl will have tickets available at all weekly meetings. If paying by check, please make payable to Skaneateles Rotary Foundation. Be sure the contact information is completed on the ticket and give that portion of the ticket to Cheryl along with ticket money/checks. Thank you and good luck to everyone!
