It is with great sadness that we report that past Skaneateles Rotarian, Dale Zabel, died peacefully last evening around 11 PM at the Homestead Village in Lancaster Pa. Our prayers and thoughts are with his wife Louise and family. No service plans have been made at this time.
Dale joined our club in May 1999 and was very active until his departure of the area in April of 2018. He was responsible for creating and chairing the Skaneateles map project, a very active participant in the annual Holiday Basket event and many, many other club and community projects.
Louise's address is: 1866 Villa Court, Lower Unit, Lancaster, PA 17602
LAST WEEK- Feb 25th, 2021 ... by Mary
Membership/Attendance: 52 Active members 17 attending
Guests: Janet Aaron, Town Supervisor
The Beginnings - President Dave opened the meeting by welcoming our guest, Janet Aaron, Skaneateles Town Supervisor. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and then Ed Evans read an inspiration.
The Program - Janet Aaron, Town of Skaneateles Supervisor was our speaker. Janet is familiar to most everyone as she has worked for either the Village or Town since 1983. Janet is now in her second term as Supervisor having been elected in 2017. Janet began her presentation by recognizing Dave Lee for accepting a position on the Town Zoning Board of Appeals. She spoke about the necessary adaptations the Town made in the last year due to COVID. The Town worked hard to continue to provide services including the transfer station, highway services and park services while at the same time keeping employees and residents safe. Town Hall is now open with appropriate COVID protections. Town park programs, with the exception of the swimming area were suspended as they were subject to a permit to operate from Onondaga County. Hopefully programs will begin again this year. Boat launch activity at both the Mandana and DEC sites boomed last summer. In spite of all the limitations imposed by COVID the Town accomplished the following: construction of new restrooms at Austin Park, repair of the Civil War Monument at Lakeside Cemetery, sponsorship of a study of Skaneateles Lake, development of a Skaneateles Lake website, adoption of the Town's Comprehensive Plan and revisions to the transfer station operation. Janet also thanked the Skaneateles Rotary Clubs for their ongoing service to the community. We thank Janet for her service and leadership in the community.
