PRESIDENTS' CORNER ... by Pres., Bill Conole
A NIGHT TO REMEMBER: Last evening our Skaneateles Rotary Club members once again demonstrated to our community how everyone can have a good time while raising vitally needed funds to assist the destitute in this Holiday Season.  This year we sold enough tickets to   fill the Country Club’s main ballroom. Laughter & merriment prevailed throughout the evening. As club president I appreciate so much how hard all of our members worked to make our 2018 Annual Christmas Fundraiser such a success. As a result of your efforts & teamwork almost $13,000 was raised.  This year, thanks to our organizing committee, well over 50% of attendees won prizes. Our Annual Christmas Fundraiser is a great way for our club to bring our community together to begin the holiday season. Next week, when we will continue to celebrate the season with our club Christmas Party in the Sherwood. Again, thanks to everyone making this year’s Christmas Fundraiser so special.
LAST WEEK ... by Mary Giroux
A good time was had by all at the Club's Christmas benefit dinner held at the Skaneateles Country Club!  Club members and guests enjoyed lots of good conversation and laughter. President Bill began the program with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by Dan Roche leading us in singing America the Beautiful.  Reverand Toppie Bates from St. James Church said the invocation.   Turkey carvers were ready with their knives and a delicious holiday dinner was enjoyed by all.
     Thanks to all Club members that rallied to make this event a huge success with special thanks to;
  • Cheryl Silvestrini  and Marv Langley  for co-chairing this event
  • Amy Tormey  and Jack Hyatt for taking care of tickets and tables
  • Steve Schwartz for making arrangements with SCC
  • Roy MacDonald, Dave Piper  and Craig Froelich  for their organization of the door prizes
  • President Bill  for emceeing
  • Club Elves (too many to mention by name) that brought gifts for door prizes and solicited businesses for door prizes
  • Everyone that pitched in at the event to do odd jobs...…..collecting envelopes, distributing door prizes, taking pictures etc.
  • CLICK HERE to view some pictures of the event on the club's website Photo Albums
There were a total of 228 Rotarians and guests and all together we raised over $12,000 to donate to area food pantries
As Santa would say "Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night!"

200 Club Fundraiser ... by Cheryl
It may not be as exciting as cracking eggs or flipping pancakes, but the “200 Club” Raffle is an easy way to raise money to benefit community and youth groups.  Here’s how it works:  we sell 200 tickets at $20 each for a total of $4,000.  We give away $1250 in prizes which leaves us with $2750 to use for worthy causes.
We will sell tickets starting 10/18/18.  Two $50 prizes will be drawn at our Club Meetings on 12/13, 12/20, 1/3, 1/10 & 1/17.  On 1/10, we will draw a $250 winner, as well as the $500 Grand Prize winner.  Also, all weekly winners will be put back into the raffle and be eligible for the Grand Prize!
We need to sell all 200 tickets for this raffle to work as outlined, so please consider selling at least 5 tickets to family, friends, co-workers, etc. – and don’t forget to buy your own!  Cheryl will have tickets available at all weekly meetings.  If paying by check, please make payable to Skaneateles Rotary Foundation.  Be sure the contact information is completed on the ticket and give that portion of the ticket to Cheryl along with ticket money/checks.  Thank you and good luck to everyone!
DID YOU KNOW?
HOGWASH
Steamboats carried both people and animals. Since pigs smelled so bad they would be washed before being put on board. The mud and other filth that was washed off was considered useless "hog wash".
