The Beginnings: President Doug Hill opened the meeting by leading us in the Pledge and welcoming our guests: DG Elise Hereth Dist Gov D7150, AG Charlie Smith, Thomas Boxho (2011/12 YE f/Belgium).  Charlie Smith led us in the 4 way test.
New Member Induction: Vincent Magnotta was inducted by Mike Tierney who informed Vince of what Rotary is and does - Vince is sponsored by Robin J. and Jamie C.
Announcements:
Packing Books for the library was a success. We had 12 Rotarians packing and we were done in just over an hour.
> Clams & Corn - Service project Saturday and Sunday Sept 2nd and 3rd at Fireman’s Field Days to serve clams and corn. (see commitments below)
> Duck Dash -  save the date: Sept 30th! More information to come on needs and volunteer opportunities.
> Duck Dash - will be participating in the Labor Day parade and marchers are needed
> Books for the World - the pallet broke under the weight of the books. Gary will be looking for volunteers to help move the boxes onto a new pallet soon.
> Next week’s meeting - will be introducing our inbound Rotary exchange students and will be our first meeting back at The Sherwood
> Happy Hour Hosts - for Sept 14th are Connor and Robin at the Legion.
The Program: AG Charlie Smith introduced DG Elise Hereth District Gov D1750. She is a member of the VVS Rotary club where she has served as their president and is currently involved in the exchange program in addition to her responsibilities as District Governor. Elise grew up in New Jersey and was exposed to Rotary at a young age via her family. After attending the University of Florida she joined the Air Force and had a long career eventually to retire as a Colonel. Beyond her Rotary duties, Elise likes to play in the community band (Oboe). She then walked us through the goals and agenda for Rotary International. There are 3 areas of focus: 1) Peace in the World 2) Polio 3) Mental Health. She shared stores along with each at both an international and district level demonstrating the importance of these causes and just what clubs/districts like ours can do to help. Elise also shared information on CNY Rotary - the newly formed district combining our district with 2 others. The new, larger, district should have stronger committees designed to help the clubs more. Elise concluded by sharing some important dates coming up: October 10th is Mental Health Day and October 24th is World Polio Day.
Dinner was prepared and served by the team of Ed, Robin, and Bill - excellent meal and everyone would definitely be a repeat customer if given the opportunity!
