Skaneateles Rotarians Picking It Up
On Saturday the 25th, 11 Rotarians and helpers cleaned up 1.1 miles of Route 20 from the village limit, west to Count line Rd. They netted 13 bags of trash! Our community is a bit cleaner as a result of these dedicated folks. Jim can add one spoon to his household and David seemed to wonder off and needed to be located in the deep woods. BTW, Jim thinks the NYS 5 cent deposit seem to work, as there were not many deposit bottles or can, which he was depending upon to earn to buy his lunch.. Pictured are (L-R): Marv L, Duane W, Craig F, Robin J, Byron L, Chuck O, David L, Jim M, Bill H, HS Student Justin W. and Lori R. (behind the camera). Thanks to Jim M. for managing the project.
Check out our FaceBook page for a few more pictures.

PRESIDENTS' CORNER... by Pres., Bill Conole
ROTARY FRIENDSHIP - Last Thursday’s warm meeting reminded me of how Rotary Club members bond & become friends by participating in club activities & serving our community. A few years ago, a now deceased member, of our club told that some of his best friends were his fellow & sister Skaneateles Rotary Club members. I’m sure most of feel the same way. Our Rotary Friendships & our zeal to continue to serve, keeps us committed to Rotary.
PAUL HARRIS FELLOWS - Helping a Rotarian become a Paul Harris Fellow is a great way to award a Rotarian for their service to our club & to our community. Many Rotarians have accrued more than enough “Recognition Points’ to honor a Rotarian or an outstanding member of our community with a Paul Harris Fellow. I am asking SRC members with accrued “Recognition Points” to please consider this in the coming year.
2019 PANCAKE BREAKFAST - Our SRC is gearing up for it’s 51st Pancake Breakfast on Father’s DAY, June 16th. Please make every effort to sell the Pancake Breakfast tickets that you were given. Our pre breakfast ticket sales are critical to the breakfast’s success. Please try to make our June 13th Pancake Breakfast kick-off so we can coordinate the final details for the breakfast.
JUNE 6THMEETING - I am unable to make our June 6thMeeting. Our SRC Changing of the Guard is postponed until later in June. Our June 6 meeting will be a social night without a program & without me talking about Millard Fillmore & Grover Cleveland.
LAST WEEK... by Mary Giroux
The Beginnings:
Little Free Library project is on its way to completion thanks to Gary Ozminkowski. Gary built the first "book box" and asked for a club member to paint it prior to installation at the Conservation Area near the town landfill. Jim McQuiggan volunteered to paint the box and when that is done we will be looking for an installation crew. Our club committed to building and installing two Little Free Libraries. Details on the second location with be forthcoming. These libraries are stocked with books by Skaneateles volunteers and provide more convenient access to those living farther out from the village. Thanks to Gary and Jim!
Tops tickets Ticket sales for the Pancake Breakfast go on sale at Tops this weekend. Check with John Moran if you still haven't signed up for a sales slot.
Rotary Foundation Alas, Woody Buterbaugh ate the check that Gary Ozminkowski delivered for the Rotary Foundation. This year's campaign is drawing to a close and we have not met our club goals yet. If you haven't contributed or would like to contribute an additional amount please send a check payable to "The Rotary Foundation" to Bill Buterbaugh. And a happy ending...….Gary will replace the check that Woody ate and Bill will have a little talk with Woody about curbing his enthusiasm for chewing. 🐶
Make America Beautiful Last weekend several club members put on hatsand vests and spiffed up the western entry to the village on Route 20. Thirteen bags of trash were collected. Thanks to Jim McQuiggan for organizing this clean up and we look forward to another in the Fall.
The Program
Can you name this Rotarian? President Bill resurrected a practice started by our Past President Chuck O'Neil. Bill read a puzzling description of a valued club member and we eventually came to the conclusion that it was Umesh Patil. Umesh is leaving the club, moving out of the area. We will miss his warmth, kindness and graciousness. Best wishes to Umesh and Vimmy.
Paul Harris Fellowship Awards Our club proudly inducted three new Paul Harris Fellows: Bill Huba, Charlie McElroy and Jim McQuiggan. Bill, Charlie and Jim have all demonstrated tangible and significant assistance for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world. Thank you for your commitment to our community and the global community. In addition, Chuck O'Neil attained the level of Paul Harris Fellow +5 and David Lee has been named a Paul Harris Major Donor. We are proud of the generosity of Chuck and David.
50-50 - won by Ward Vuillemot but alas Ward pulled the five of spades.
Guests - none this week
