Happy Hour at the Legion - from 5:30 to 6:30
Last WEEK March 30, 2023 .... by Mary
Membership/Attendance  - 41 active members, 17 attending
Guests -    Brad  Littlefield, Ben Eberhardt, Aaron Barkley, Nick Campbell (Aaron and Nick are friends of Ayham's), Corinne Buterbaugh (Bill B's better half) and John Buterbaugh (Bill's son), Chris Legg, John Rooney, Rick Keyes and John Paddock (fellow Rotarians from the morning club), and our speaker Sean O'Keefe
The Meeting - President Ed called the meeting to order, welcomed our guests and club members, and led us in the Pledge and the Four (five) Way Test. Andy brought us up to date on Food Drive plans.  The drive will benefit the Skaneateles and Spafford pantries.  Communication is being developed and the plan is to hand out bags at the April 20th meeting.  Bags will be collected and taken to Ed's house for sorting and delivery to the pantries.  Watch on social media for more info.  Our friends at Delmonico Insurance will also be collecting for the drive.  Chuck Williams reported a "Dana Coye sighting" saying that Dana is doing well.  After all, he is only 99! Bill B passed the tray for Happy $$'s and laughter and smiles ensued.
The Program-  Bill C introduced our guest speaker Sean O'Keefe.  Sean's career is diverse and impressive:  Secretary of the Navy, Director of OMB, Administrator of NASA. Chancellor of Louisiana State University and currently a professor at Syracuse University plus more.  Sean is also a Skaneateles neighbor.  "A humbling experience" is how Sean described his life in public service.  He spoke of being in a meeting with the Vice President at the White House on September 11th, of being recruited for the NASA assignment to fix issues with the International Space Station, and of being at LSU when Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans.  Sean reflected on these assignments saying that they involved dealing with "consequences of some event under disorienting circumstances".  He spoke of common threads that disruptive events have in common and how working through these events leads to doing things differently.  There were a number of questions which Sean responded to with thoughtful and insightful comments.  Thank you to Sean O'Keefe for both a thought provoking presentation and your service to our nation.
Spring into Action for Our Spring Food Drive!
Andy Stevens is hard at work organizing what has become an annual club event, a food drive that helps to fill the shelves at the Spafford and Skaneateles Food Pantries.  The Club began this event as a way to help during the pandemic and has continued the drive each year since.  At the April 20th club meeting collection bags and instructions will be distributed.  On Saturday, April 29th you are asked to bring collected donations to Ed Evan's for sorting and delivery.  This is a great way to help our neighbors in need!  Thanks to Andy for organizing this service project.
Thanks for the Heavy Lifting!!!!
A big "THANK YOU" to Ayham, Bill B, Bill C, Craig and Jason for taking time out of their Saturday morning to move tables, sawhorses and boxes of books for the Library Book Sale.  Very much appreciated by the sale volunteers.  It will make their job so much easier to do!

Join us at the scenic 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel in Clayton, New York for the first conference including all three districts that are the future CNY Rotary. Make it a weekend getaway for the full experience or drive up Saturday morning for an overnight event. The weekend will include opportunities to learn new ways to serve our communities, great food and drink, and time to connect with one another. There are discounted packages for kids and teens, so bring the whole family. Be sure to register early for the best rate and contact the hotel directly to book your room.
We hope you will come out to get inspired, meet new people and have a lot of fun!

  • Second Thursday - Optional attendance at Happy hour from 5:30 to 6:30.
