"Thinking Of You" Note or Card .... by Lee
Many of us “old timers” have worked alongside of Karen selling balloons at the pancake breakfasts, hosting Halloween parties at State Street School, and organizing fall picnic at Lourdes Camp and St James Church. We’ve admired her enthusiasm and her major contributions to our Youth Exchange Program. This is our opportunity to express our thanks by sending a “thinking of you” note/card. Her new address (as noted in our club listing) is 1451 New Seneca Tpke., Skaneateles, NY 113152
Fantastic Results - Salvation Army
SRC Bell Ringers ... by John
We raised $2,915 this year for the Salvation Army at Tops. This is more than we have raised in an average year by 25%.
People were very generous. Thanks to all who participated, with a Special thanks to Ed Evans and David Lee, who between the two of them rang the bell in 10 different time frames.
Hip-Hip-Hooray! ... by Lori The Skaneateles Rotary Club raised $16,770 in the virtual Holiday Gift Basket Fundraiser. Your money and your efforts will help our food pantries and Skaneateles Outreach help area families in need. Thanks to all, we managed this for the second year without having our holiday event.
LAST WEEK
Jan 6, 2021 - General Meeting ... by Mary
Membership/Attendance: 43 Active members -12 Members Attending Guests: none The Beginnings: After members recited the Pledge of Allegiance President Terry wished club members a Happy New Year. The Program: Club Assembly —Jay updated us on the Holiday Basket project which raised funds for the Spafford and Skaneateles Food Pantries, Skaneateles Outreach and Meals on Wheels. Terry thanked all of the committee workers who organized and executed the project making it a big success. Terry summarized club activities during another year of COVID challenges: virtual pancake breakfast, the spring food drive, spring and fall cleanup of Route 20, American Legion and Baltimore woods outdoor meetings, Firemen's Field Days and the Duck Dash. We were able to accomplish quite a bit this year!
Terry announced that he will be staying in Minnesota for the time being but will continue to be available. Bill Conole thanked Terry for his great leadership as club president. Terry announced that Mike Tierney will be joining the club's board.
Bill Conole reported on a meeting with other clubs in Marcellus. The subject of the meeting was the hemlock woolly adelgid which is threatening hemlock trees in the area. Since hemlocks help protect lake watersheds this poses a threat to our lakes. A discussion was held about a possible grant project with other district clubs. This will be discussed further at the upcoming board meeting.
Dave Lee brought up the pancake breakfast for 2022. The general consensus was to proceed as if it will happen as we can make a firm decision as the date draws closer.
Chuck Williams mentioned that Laker Limo is looking for a new home as their present location is being sold to the library. Ideas would be welcome.
Ward is making bottle stoppers like crazy so give him a call if you need any.
Virtual Happy Dollars were put forth by many of the attendees.
The Endings - We all joined in the 4 Way Test
Rotary International and
The Rotary Foundation release position
on COVID-19 vaccination ... from RI website
As the first organization to envision a polio-free world through mass immunization of children, Rotary believes the decision to vaccinate is a humanitarian imperative. The Rotary International Board of Directors and Rotary Foundation Trustees believe that:
Global vaccination is the path to ending the pandemic, and we strongly encourage vaccination for all individuals, including our members.
Misinformation hinders the fight against COVID-19, and we are committed to providing our members with science-based information.
Rotary is engaged in assuring equity in vaccine access to all people. Through joint efforts with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance we are leveraging our frontline experience with polio to facilitate vaccine delivery.
Rotary salutes health care workers everywhere as they continue to provide lifesaving services. We encourage clubs to offer recognition and encouragement to these heroes.
Rotary and Rotaract clubs are encouraged to redouble their efforts to support COVID-19 prevention and vaccination efforts.
As one of the greatest advances of modern medicine, vaccines are safe, effective and save millions of lives each year. They have eliminated or controlled numerous diseases such as polio, smallpox, measles, and Ebola, and now, there is the opportunity to end the COVID-19 pandemic through vaccination.
The eradication of polio remains the goal of the highest order for Rotary. We can continue to apply the lessons we have learned in fighting polio to COVID-19 response efforts.
