PRESIDENTS' CORNER ... by Pres., Mary Giroux
We heard about a wonderful organization. Paige's Butterfly Run, that provides many forms of assistance to families of children diagnosed with pediatric cancers.  Mary Kate Intagleitta, Executive Director, gave a passionate presentation.  Pedaling for Paige, one of their fundraisers, will take place on March 24th at Gazella Training in Skaneateles.
Planning for two of our big events, the 50th Pancake Breakfast and the Women's day Dinner are underway.  Please step up to help if you can.
And, Valentine's Day is right around the corner.  We'll have a Club dinner on February 15th, sweethearts invited!
Stay warm and see you next Thursday!

THE PROGRAM
Paiges’s Butterfly Run: Bill Conole introduced our speaker Mary Kate Intaglietta, Executive Director of Paige’s Butterfly Run (PBR). Mary Kate opened her presentation with a brief history of how the PBR gained their name & mission when a young girl named Paige died from leukemia in 1994. The year after Paige’s death friends of Paige’s family organized the 1st Paige Butterfly Run fundraising event in honor of Paige. This event raised $2500, which Paige’s family contributed to Upstate Medical Center for pediatric cancer research. Since 1995 the Paige Butterfly Run has gained popularity & increased their fundraising efforts. The mission of PBR inc, is to raise funds with integrity to benefit current & future pediatric cancer patints & their families in CNY through the sponsorship of pediatric programs at Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse. Over the last 22 years PBR has raised over $2.5 million dollars. In 2016 PBR’s Board hired Mary Kate to be PBR’s Executive Director. Under Mary Kate’s leadership PBR has 4 major goals are:
1 Pediatric cancer research.
2 Provide assistance to families whose loved ones are suffering from pediatric cancer.
3 Work with Golisano Staff to ascertain how they can best help these families.
4 Continue to raise funds for cancer research.
Mary Kate displayed a PBR “Comfort Kit” which is given to cancer patient’s families receiving care in Golisano.  Nary Kate encouraged our members to participate in the “Pedaling For Paige” which will be held on March 24th in Skaneateles Gazella Training & Fitness Center. There is a $25 entry fee & entrant’s contribute an additional $50 for cancer research.  This year’s Paige Butterfly Run will be held on June 2nd in Clinton Square.
