Summary Notes of Dec 17 Meeting ... by Ward
Your Board of Directors met last Thursday, Dec 17 and the following is a summary of discussions points and resolutions.
Pres. Bill's Relocation - Bill has accepted a job offer in Virginia and is stepping down as Club President, Grants Chair and Worthy Cause Chair. Past President Cheryl Sivestrini will assume the President's position as of Jan. 1st, 2016. The Grants and Worthy Cause Chairs remain to be filled. The Board thanked Bill for providing six months of excellent leadership and wished him well in his new adventure and location.
2016-17 Officer & Directors Candidates - The Board recommended the following for open positions, commencing July 1, 2016
Secretary - David Piper
Treasurer - Duane Weaver
Exec-Secretary - Ward Vuillemot
Director -Mary Giroux (2year term commencing July 1, 2016)
Three additional Directors (as above) - to be determined
Vice President (current term) & PE for 2016-17 (same individual) - to be determined

Dictionary/Thesaurus distribution - to take place at the State Street School on Dec. 22nd
Grants Training and Membership Seminars - to take place at the Baldwinsville Library for 10 am - 1 pm on Saturday January 23. (no charge and lunch provided). We will need a least two Rotarians to attend the Grants portion if we are to participate in the next District Grant cycle. Interested in attending? Contact Cheryl.
Club Assembly - Scheduled for the 2nd meeting in January.
Dues are due - The club treasure will get the billing out shortly.(see notice above)
Membership - Discussion ensued of verification of a verbal resignation. Must be verified in writing, per our By-Laws.
District and RI Dues - are calculated and billed on our Jan. 1 membership numbers. Therefore, all membership records must be up to date by Dec. 31st.
Rotary Foundation Giving - to date numbers reported as: Annual Giving (SHARE); $4,530, or 73% of a $6,300 goal. PolioPlus: $856 or 43% of a $2,000 goal. 27 Rotarians and non-Rotarians participating YTD.
LAST WEEK:... by Bill Conole
President Bill departs - Before dinner President Bill announced that in January he is starting a new job in Leesburg, Virginia & therefore must resign as our club President. Our past president Cheryl Silvestrini will take over as president for the remainder of Bill Blessing's term. Past president Bill Conole will assist President Cheryl when needed.
2016-17 Officers - The membership voted upon and accepted the slate of officers noted above in the BOD Summary.
The Three Phases of WWII - Our speaker Marvin Langley joined the Army in 1941 shortly after graduating from Cornell. For his basic training in the Army's Armor Corps Marvin was sent to Fort Knox. Marvin pointed out that our Army was woefully unprepared for war in 1941. Armor training was conducted in a few jeeps--tanks were not available. Because of his education & excellent service record Marvin was selected for OCS. Marvin said OCS candidates were called "90 day wonders" because they only received 90 days of training. After his commissioning Marvin was sent to upstate NY's. rural "Pine Camp" (now Fort Drum) for additional training. While there Marvin heard the legendary Gen Patton deliver an inspiring pep talk. Marvin pointed out that the Nazi tanks were technological marvels compared with the US's hastily built lightly armored & gunned tanks. As a result American tanks suffered severe loses at the hands of Gen Rommel's tanks in North Africa. Marvin's tank unit landed in the "2nd element" on Omaha Beach on D-Day. By this time the Army adapted new tactics that offset many of the advantages formerly held by the Nazi's superior tanks. Marvin's description of his WW2 combat service was vivid & passionate. When Marvin completed his presentation members gave him a standing ovation and saluted him as being a true representative of America's "Greatest Generation".

PolioPlus - Goal: $2,000 YTD: $956 or 48%
The Challenge from an anonymous Rotarian - who will match the PolioPlus amount given by Dec. 31st. So ... if we can bring the YTD PP to $1,000 by 12/31, then the match will meet our goal. GO FOR IT! ... by Ward

OUR 2015-16 ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE
LONG TERM EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Outbound - The 2015-16 Rotary Youth Exchange Outbound students have departed for a year as exchange students abroad. Sofia Darovskikh, to Finland, and Zach Driscoll to Germany. We wish them all the best on their "adventure of a lifetime".
Inbound - student have moved to their second host families: Vincent , from France, hosted by Jessica & Tom Wingfield, and Daniela from Chile, hosted by Shelly & Marc Strang.
SHORT TERM EXCHANGE PROGRAM (STEP)
Hope Glowacki has spent a few weeks in Sicily, Italy and her host sister, Irene returned with her to Skaneateles for a few weeks.
Adrianna Marshall traveled to Thuringia, Germany and his host sister, Constanze, returned to Skaneateles for an exchange.
