LAST WEEK - Feb 20, 2020 ... by Mary Giroux
GUESTS were welcomed to our meeting: Chuck Tomasselli, fellow Rotarian from New Hartford and our speaker for the evening. Hal Brown, fellow Rotarian from Tully and Jason Armijo, friend of Tyler Lorey and attendee at this week's happy hour event.
THE ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Tuesday evening Happy Hour was a good time for Rotarians and several guests. One guest, Jason Armijo attended our club meeting this week. Next Happy Hour is March 24th at the American Legion hosted by Cheryl Silvestrini.
Chuck Williams had a mishap resulting in a total hip replacement. Nancy reports that he is doing well and raring to get home.
Karen Price - Roberta Williams let us know that Karen Price appreciates the generosity of the community in helping her out during this difficult time. Please keep Karen in your thoughts.
The District RF Gala is this Saturday evening (Feb 22) at the Craftsman Inn. Rotary, the canine is the guest of honor.
Global Grant - Ward told us about the club's financial commitment to the "Free MoonCatcher Kits" global grant project which will provide hygiene supplies to young women in Uganda thereby enabling them to remain in school and obtain an education. This should have a ripple effect on future generations.
The new club meeting format will be continued at least through June with a tweak. There will be two meetings each month with a speaker.
THE PROGRAM
Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group
Rotarian, Chuck Tomasselli spoke passionately about the ESRAG (Environment Sustainability Rotarian Action Group). ESRAG's goal is to bring awareness to climate change end environmental issues and stimulate ongoing conversation about these important issues that will affect future generatioins. Tyler Lorey volunteered to be the club's coordinator for this effort.
50/50 - Suzette Grinnals won the 50/50, but alas, the Queen of Spaces still hides in the deck.
Membership/Attendance: 49 Active members - 11 attending @ 22%
Dinner with "Rotary" at Gala ... by Ward
The District Rotarians and guests attending the Rotary Foundation Gala, Saturday, were treated to dinner with "Rotary" and a presentation by Mary Giroux. Mary spoke ofClear Path for Veterans and their program to provide Service Dogs to veterans in need and reviewed the very successful, multi-club District Grant that she authored and managed to help fund the service dog for this program. Mary & Rotary were one of the major highlights of the evening.

The SRC BOD met Feb 20th, 2020 and following are the summary bullets of that meeting.
Minutes of the January meeting - approved.
Worthy Cause - Funds were approved for: Boy's State sponsorship, St. Baldrick's Fund, Barrow Gallery, sponsorship of 2 RYLA, 2020 SHS Graduate Scholarship & SCC Easter egg Hunt.
Global Grant - participation was approved to manufacture and provide free "Moon Catchers" (hygiene supplies) to young women in Uganda thereby enabling them to remain in school and obtain an education, which will have a ripple effect for future generations.
Financials - Club Skaneateles Foundation financials reviewed, which showed that we are in good stead for the year.
District Grant - multi-club grant to support a Baltimore Woods project was reviewed by Dale Drake (more to come on this)
Service Project - Setup for Easter egg hunt on April 11th approved.
Ice Sculpture - funding for our share of the Rotary Ice Sculpture was approved for payment.
Trial Meeting Schedule - discussed and an agreement to extend it through June, with a change from one to two major speaker programs per month.
Happy Hours - to date were reported to be successful and Rotary intro for guests discussed.
Rotary Foundation matching funds - approved to process with TRF
Next meeting - scheduled for March 12 @ 5PM
A Fun Service Opportunity ... by Ward
Each year the VVS High School, FFA puts on a Maple Breakfast on Saturday & Sunday mornings over two weekends. This is their biggest event of the year. The dates are March 21-22 & March 28-29 from 7:30 till noon. They are a small group & asking for volunteers.
This is the group of students that we obtain our Maple Sirup from to sale at our Father's Day Pancake Breakfast, which the students harvest and process. It would be a fun thing to do for a great group of students ... and a wonderful Service opportunity. Contact Donna Schonewetter atdschonewetter@vvsschools.orgif you can help.
