PRESIDENTS' CORNER... by Pres., Bill Conole
WELCOME BACK WARD - Senior SRC member joined on Thursday after a long stay in Florida. Soon our many other SRC “Snowbird”s will be returning. 2019-20 EMPIRE STAT MULTI-DISTRICT PRESIDENTS ELECT TRAINING SEMINAR – was held in the University Sheraton on March 15-16. Rotary International President 2019-20 (RIPE) Mark Daniel Maloney addressed several hundred Rotarians from Rotary Districts 7120, 7150, 7170 & 7190. RIPE Maloney urged all clubs to immediately form “active membership committees”. RIPE Maloney noted that clubs may have to consider different meeting experiences to attract young professional. To increase membership clubs must be innovative. SURVEY - sent to all members was prompted by RIPE Maloney’s M/D PETS remarks. Survey’s objective is to seek members input on how our club can grow so it will better connect with our community & ensure that our club remains a viable part of our community it the future. Doug Powell & I are eager to receive your responses to this survey so please take some time to fill it out & send it back to me. NEXT WEEK - John Gilly, Pres. Skaneateles Sunrise Club will present a program on the St James Master Class Lecture Series.

Shelter Box & Interact -
Tom Deuson, fellow Watertown Rotarian and very active promoter of Shelter Box was presented with a check by Interact President Noah Smith. The Interact Club donated all of their fund raising from last year to Shelter Box and our Club will be making an additional contribution. Tom brought us up to date on Shelter Box's activities noting that Shelter Box has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Shelter Box is also a top rated charity according to Charity Navigator. Please consider participating in the Shelter Box Bike Ride in Henderson Harbor on Saturday, June 1st. Noah is a senior this year who in addition to Interact is active in the Drama Club and an Eagle Scout.

THE PROGRAM - Baltimore Woods
Thanks to Dale Drake who arranged for Whitney Lash Marshall, Executive Director of Baltimore Woods, to speak. Whitney spoke about the mission of Baltimore Woods which is to focus on environmental education and connecting people to nature. Each year Baltimore Woods runs a program with the City of Syracuse School District reaching over 10,000 students per year. A variety of other programs are offered for community members of all ages. Baltimore Woods' strategic plan is to continue and expand current programs, increase capacity through the acquisition of an additional 90 acres adjacent to the current property. Whitney told us about the upcoming capital campaign. Volunteer opportunities are always available at Baltimore Woods and Whitney thanked our club for participation in past events. The Run for the Woods, an annual fundraiser will be held on August 18th this year. Whitney answered a number of questions.

ShelterBox
ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity that provides temporary shelter and life saving supplies to displaced families. Each ShelterBox typically contains a tent designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, water purification kit, blankets, tools, and other necessities to help a family survive after a disaster. The contents of a ShelterBox are tailored to the nature and location of the disaster.
The Skaneateles Rotary club and a few of its members have made contributions to the effort in the past. This week, the Skaneateles Rotary Club and the Skaneateles High School Interact club join ranks to sponsor an additional ShelterBox.
