Summary Notes of Nov 16, 2017 Meeting... by Ward
Your Board of Directors met last week and the following is a short summary of discussions points and resolutions.
Skaneateles Rotary Club Foundation financial statement, supplied by Kathy Crelot, was distributed and reviewed.
The Rotary Foundation - giving to date was reviewed. Bill Buterbaugh will brief the membership of status and how they might participate this year. Bill will send a letter to each member next week reminding of our commitment to The Rotary Foundation.
2018-19 Slate of officers was discussed and suggestion made. Jim McQuiggan agreed to fill the current Director vacancy for the 2017-19 term.
Annual Meeting to vote on the officers and directors will be held December 21st.
Books for the World pallet kit approved, which is being used for books donated by the schools and community during the year.
Worthy Cause Update - Cheryl Silvestrini updated the BOD on current worthy cause consideration, which will be acted upon at a subsequent meeting.
District Grant progress was given by Cathy Powell and ideas for future grants discussed.
Program updates were given by Bill Conole.
50th Pancake Breakfast plans were reviewed by President Mary. She discussed the Welch Allyn Foundation grant to be used for PR, entertainment, etc.
Membership attendance discussed. The Membership Retention committee is being asked to review and make recommendations.
Adopt-a-Highway project is to be resurrected with the approval of the Board. Marv Langley agreed to chair this community service task.
Coats - It was agreed, by the Board, to tie "Coats of the Needy" with the club's Holiday party on Dec. 14th. Cheryl is working out the details.
Next BOD Meeting - December 21st. at 5 PM at the Sherwood Inn.

Club 200 Fundraiser - Cheryl Silvestrini made a last minute call for members to buy tickets before tonight' s final drawing.
Bell Ringers -John Moran noted that 7 spots remain to be filled for or annual bell ringing in Tops. (see below)
Annual Christmas Fundraiser - December ih-Amy Tormey has tickets for members. This yasr tickets are $30. Members are encouraged to buy tables by Nov 30t h. Members are also encouraged to prizes worth at least $30 from local merchants. These prizes are raffled off at the dinner. To remind everyone Cheryl passed around a sign up sheet for members to list the prizes they are buying for our dinner on the ih. Cheryl reminded everyone that there will be a brief meeting after our regular meeting to go over plans for our fundraiser. (see more information below)
Baltimore Woods Nature Center Seasons of Giving - Umesh announced that Baltimore Woods is having their annual Holiday Sale on December 2"d, 10am-4pm & on December 3, 12-4pm. Proceeds from this fundraiser will help support the Baltimore Woods Summer Camp. (see more info above)
The Program: Club Assembly
District Matching Grant: Grants Chair Cathy Powell reported that the Rotary Grant for Shelter Boxes is all set for sub mission. Cathy noted that on October 23rd a Shelter Box was set up on the lawn in front of Skaneateles High School by the Interact Club & many other volunteers. The Interact Club was so impressed with the Shelter Box that they donated the $500 they raised in this year's Haunted Hallways toward the purchase of a Shelter Box. A Shelter Box costs $1,000, so by contributing $500 our club can join with Interact to purchase a Shelter Box . Cathy asked for ideas for pursuing another Rotary Grant next year. Cathy is considering a grant for Clearpath For Veterans or the ASPCA. President Mary thanked Cathy for her efforts in securing this year's grant.
Rotary Foundation: Rotary Foundation Chair Bill Buterbaugh reminded members that it is time for our annual Rotary Foundation sol icitat ion . Our club has a well deserved reputation for it's generosity . This year our club's goal is to raise $6,000 for the Rotary Foundation & $2,000 for Polio +. This year it will be great if every member contributed thus meeting the "Every Rotarian Every Year'' goal. Bill reminded everyone that the for the first 30 members contribut ing $100 there is a $50 match. This $50 match is is counted towards a members Paul Harris Fund contributions. Members should make their checks out to the Rotary Foundation. Members will receive letters from Chair Bill Buterbaugh shortly.
50th Anniversary Pancake Breakfast Grant - Chuck O'Neil announced that he & Robin Jowaisas secured a grant from the Allyn Foundation to help support a special celebration to mark the 501h Anniversary of the Skaneateles Rotary Club's Pancake Breakfast. For 50 year's our club has held the major community event. Chuck briefly reviewed the grant application with our members, highlighting what our club needs to do to follow up on this grant. This grant will enable our club to celebrate with our community the 50 the of Anniversary of Pancake Breakfast in special way. After a brief discussion on ideas for this celebration, President Mary thanked Chuck & Robin for excellent work in securing this grant.
Attendance: President Mary asked every member' s help in encouraging members to attend our meetings. Strong meeting attendance keeps us connected & builds teamwork & fellowship that helps a club thrive. Mary noted that it will be great if every meeting's attendance matched this evening's attendance.
Club 200 Grand Drawing: $250 prize won by Bill Conole. Grand Prize of $500 won by Dale Zabel! Club 200 Coordinator Cheryl noted that this year 150 tickets were sold. Slightly more tickets were sold this year. Proceeds from these sales will go to our club "worthy cause fund". President Mary thanked Cheryl for conducting our successful 2017 Club 200 Raffle.

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS FUNDRAISER – Dec. 7th ... by Cheryl Silvestrini
The Skaneateles Rotary Club’s Annual Christmas Fundraiser will be held on Thursday, December 7th, at the Skaneateles Country Club. We will begin with a Happy Hour at 6 p.m., followed by a traditional family-style turkey dinner at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 and can purchased in tables of 8 and 10. You may contact Amy Tormey for tickets. Pre-paying for tickets with either cash or a check is highly recommended.
Please encourage Rotarians, family, friends, co-workers, etc., to not only buy a ticket to the event, but to ATTEND the event. The money from the donations of attendees is what we rely on to make this event successful. Also, we need the support of all Rotarians in coming up with raffle prizes. The goal is to have at least 50% of those who attend win a prize.
While local merchants and professionals will be canvassed again this year for prize donations, all Rotarians are also asked to donate prizes. The committee encourages Rotarians to buy prizes worth at least $30 and to purchase from local merchants. This year – on a trial basis – the committee has decided to forego purchasing prizes from Best Buy. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that all Rotarians contribute a prize for the raffle. Also, consider donating a prize from your business or the company you work for. Please let Roy MacDonald or Dave Piper know in advance of the event what you will be bringing in the way of a prize. Even if you can’t attend the event, please contribute a raffle prize.
