The Beginnings
President Dave welcomed everyone to the meeting at the American Legion pavilion.
Pledge and Blessing - After the Pledge of Allegiance Jack Hyatt gave a heartfelt blessing to our gathering.
Entertainment - Byron Lee, Dave's very talented son, played beautiful music as everyone socialized. Byron's music was indeed "music to our ears." Thank you, Byron, and we look forward to having you back as it is always a special treat.
The Programs:
Labor Day - Chris Legg (Skaneateles Sunrise Rotary) told us about the project underway to honor the Skaneateles Volunteer Firefighters and help replace some of their lost funds due to cancellation of the Labor Day Field Days and Casino Night. Ribbons will be placed throughout the Village and volunteers are needed to assemble them. Jay Steth will provide details (see below). There will also be a donation opportunity, details to follow.
Newest members - Our two newest club members, Alec Osiecki andDoug Hill were welcomed to the club in person with Jay Stith presenting pins, T-shirts and other club materials. Welcome Doug and Alec, we look forward to getting to know you!
The Endings:
Future Meetings - President Dave announced that we would have a September meeting at the Legion Pavilion, weather permitting, and that Ed Evans has been having discussions with The Sherwood about resuming normal dinner meetings sometime soon.
Closing - Bill Buterbaugh led us in the 4-Way Test.
Thanks again to our Party Planners: Ed Evans, Bill Buterbaugh and Robin Jowaisas.
Bows to Honor our Volunteer Firemen
(Rotary Fire & Water Tribute project)
Volunteers are needed on FRIDAY (9/4) at 12 noon in the big conference room located in the front of the Fire Department building. We are looking for between half and dozen to 10 volunteers to help make the bows that will then be disbursed around the village on a different day (showing up to this does not obligate you to assist with the village-wide distribution effort)
If interested club members could call/text or email me (315-209-0753 orjstith@healthstrategyassoc.com) to let me know they will be there I would appreciate it for planning purposes.
Also, additional sets of scissors would be helpful.
Important to note that masks will need to worn the entire time and if some people could bring some disinfectant to help clean up our work area that would be great.

Rotary and its GPEI Partners Celebrate
a Monumental Achievement
The World Health Organization (WHO) on August 25 announced that transmission of the wild poliovirus has officially been stopped in all 47 countries of its African region. This a a historical and vital step toward global eradication of polio, which is Rotary's top priority.
After decades if hard won gain in the region, Rotary and its partners in the (GPEI) - WHO, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, UNICEF, and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Gavi, the vaccine alliance - are proclaiming the milestone an achievement in public health. They offer it as proof that strong commitment, coordination and perseverance can rid the world of polio.
The Christmas Basket Dinner is our big fundraiser during the holiday season. Similar to the Pancake Breakfast, Covid has put the event, as traditionally held, in jeopardy. With that in mind, we are actively looking for ways to hold a modified version of the event and potentially add another event earlier in the fall to ensure we are able to give our normal amount of money to excellent causes. If anyone has any ideas for ways to hold a modified Christmas Basket Dinner and/or other fundraising events please reach out to Jay Stith (email –jstith@healthstrategyassoc.com or cell - 315-209-0753)
The club had a brainstorming session at our recent meeting on Thursday. Numerous members mentioned interesting ideas worth evaluation. Ideas included:
Holding a Christmas Basket Dinner just not at the Country Club – members would host people at their house for a dinner rather than at the Country Club. Guests would hopefully donate as they would to raise money.
Moving the Christmas Basket Dinner forward to either Sept/Oct, smoking turkeys, and holding the event outdoors.
Holding an event at the Skaneateles Brewery that combines drinks from the Brewery and possibly some sort of BBQ dinner sale. The money would be raised from either tips on drinks purchases or a surcharge on each beer as well as on the BBQ dinners.
A shred day where we would shred items for the community for a fee.
