BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING SUMMARY

Your BOD directors met last week on July 9th. In the absence of a quorum, no action was taken. However, the following items were discussed:,
Sunshine Committee - Pres Bill proposed that a Sunshine committee be established as a part of the Membership Retention committee, with Suzette as chair. The objective would be keep in touch with, and assist, those members who are ill, or have other special needs.
Attendance - Membership attendance reports of the past six months were reviewed and discussed.
Make-ups, as a means of meeting the 50% attendance requirement, was discussed. (see article in this issue of the newsletter)
Phone for Exchange Students - Pres Bill has explored some options with AT&T and Verizon. No action taken.
Club Picture Directory - Content reviewed by Ward. Cheryl is assisting with editing it, and it will be printed this month.
Trading Banners ... by Ward
Two additional trading banners were added to our collection. There banners are from clubs our members have visited or from YE Students or Rotarians who are guest of our club. The two addition banners are:

Another Successful Book Gleaning... by Ward
Skantarians and friends from our two Skaneateles Rotary clubs sorted and packed 32 cartons of children books as well as selected library books this past Sunday and the Skaneateles Library Sale for the CNY Books for the World project. Our many thanks and appreciation go out to the volunteers and to the Friends of the Skaneateles Library for making this possible. Untold numbers of children, teachers and others in remote parts of the world will benefit from these books. Ain't it Great to be a Rotarian!

Auburn Public Theater -Erin Humphrey, Development Director
“A Place Where Everyone is Welcome”
Erin Humphrey, Development Director of the Auburn Public Theater gave a spirited presentation of the rapid growth of the non-profit theater over the last ten years.
Before she described the theater, Erin, a Skaneateles native, gave the Skaneateles Rotary Club a heartfelt “thank you” for being selected an exchange student to Japan in 1997. She said it had a profound impact on her life and she will forever be thankful to Skaneateles Rotary Club.
Erin then went on to described the three-pronged approach by the theater that provides performing arts, community education and cinema. Through these areas, “we change lives by providing access to the arts”. She stated the growth of the theater has been rapid going from a staff of 4 to 12 in the last two years. Because of this growth “We are witnessing a complete transformation of the downtown corridor in Auburn”.
The theater has a myriad of activities offering music theory, comedy series, wellness series, Sunday music series, Tuesday night open mic, public documentary cinema, live independent national theater, and movie series. The theater also promotes Auburn Public Studio, which provides musical instrument lessons and the Auburn Public Chorus and Adult Archipelago Groups.
Erin passed out many brochures and hopes that Skaneateles Rotarians will visit the many presentations of the theater. “Late Nite Catechism” will be playing July 14-August 8 as part of the Finger Lakes Musical Festival. Call 315-255-1785 for tickets.

Youth Exchange Welcome Home Dinner
All students who have recently returned from abroad will be the guests of the Youth Exchange Committee at the dinner. The cost for Rotarians and family members will be $18.00 per person with advance registration by July 31, 2015, $23.00 after July 31st, or $25.00 per person at the door.

Double Days Rotary Event - Sunday, Aug 30. at the Double Days ball park in Auburn. Gates open at 4 pm. The cost is 25 dollars a person and that includes: The ticket, food, beverages. The seating is on the third base side under the tent. Bring your family and friends for a great day at the ball park. MAKING UP... by Ward Vuillemot
Making-up in Rotary-talk, is not about making-up with a lost friend, is about visiting other Rotary clubs in your immediate area, or in other parts of the country, or in the world as you travel for pleasure or business. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet many interesting Rotarians and to make new lasting acquaintances, and glean new and interesting ideas for projects to bring back to our club. I have traveled to many places in our world in my professional life and as a tourist, and have visited Rotary clubs on those trips when ever the opportunity has been available. As a result, I have life long friends around the world. During my business travels, I seldom spent a weekend alone camped out in a lonely hotel room as my new found Rotary friends shared the part of the world with me, and I have learned more about Rotary and it many wonderful works than I could in a lifetime of local club meetings. Try it, you'll like it.

2015-16 Skaneateles Rotary Youth Exchange
The 2015-16 Rotary Youth Exchange Outbound students have been selected and will be departing this summer for a year as exchange students abroad. They are: Sofia Darovskikh, going to Finland, and Zach Driscoll going to Germany. We congratulate them upon their selections and wish them all the best on their "adventure of a lifetime".
Our Inbound students will be: Daniela Fadic Contreras, from Chile, and Vincent Lambert form France.
