The Beginning: President Terry warmly welcomed all of our guests after which we recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang "America the Beautiful." For once we were all in tune with each other! Ward announced that the polio stopper project was again in full force/ (see special offer below).lAny District 7150 member donating $100 toward polio plus over and above regular annual giving will receive a beautifully hand crafted wine bottle stopper made by Ward. Ward's polio stoppers have contributed over $27,000 to stopping polo. Club members enjoyed a delicious traditional summer meal of hotdogs and hamburgers. Applause for Ann's and Brad's culinary skills was resounding!
The Program: President Terry gave a warm introduction to our guest speaker, Drew Kessler. Drew joined Rotary at age 20 and has held a number of leadership positions. He is currently Zone Rotary International Director Elect, Zones 28 & 31 for the 2022-2024 year. Drew is a member of the North Rockland Rotary Club. He joined 20 years ago and as a young man found that all club members were there for essentially the same purpose: to give back to the community.
Drew talked about how the ideal rotary club is "a little bit of every demographic" and that potential membership starts with attraction to Rotary's goals and usually boils down to service opportunities. A common thread amongst members is that they want to "get their hands dirty" and enjoy the comradery and fellowship that Rotary offers. Attracting new members that will be involved boils down to a platform that works for all members and is relevant to all members. Drew also talked about the effect that just one person can have citing the beginning of two Rotary initiatives, Shelter Box and Polio Plus, that were started by single Rotary members.
Drew's talk was both informative and thought provoking.
Four Way Test was led by Charlie Smith, fellow Rotarian from Camillus.
