Tis "Service Above Self"   in our community at its best.  Picture supplied by Amy.

Ted Case, the Man who made Movies Talk - Bill Conole introduced our speaker Ms Antonia [Tony] Collela. Tony & her son Luke co-authored a book on a famous Auburn inventor, Theodore Case, who put sound on film. Tony colorfully related the remarkable life of Theodore Case. Ted Case was from a wealthy prominent Auburn family. After graduating from Yale Ted served our nation in WW1 by developing sophisticated secret modes of communication. After the war Ted developed the first practical mode of putting sound on film. In 1924 he recorded the first talking film of a US President. Sadly Case's patents on his sound inventions were lost when other unscrupulous inventors & movie makers found ways to infringe on Case's inventions. As a result Case did not receive proper credit or money for his ground breaking invention. Tony noted that until the mid 1930's Case lived in a large 40 room mansion on South Street. The Case Family also owned a large summer retreat on a beautiful mile long stretch of Owasco Lake called Casewasco. For the past decade Tony & her son Luke have been working to ensure that our local great inventor ,Theodore Case, is not forgotten & that he receives the credit due him.
