THIS WEEK Sept. 20th, 2018 - 6:30 PM
The Sherwood Inn., Skaneateles
Chuck Williams will give us a run down on his extensive collection of glass cutters.  It numbers 1400 different from around the world and is considered the most diverse and complete by one person in the world.  He has collected these over the past 45 years and published a book entitled "GLASS CUTTERS with a Brief History of Flat Glass" in 2012 (available in the Skaneateles Library). He also have self printed a book(2 copies only) containing an additional 950 different glass cutters that I know are owned by others.  This is for academic use only as most were gleaned from the internet over the years.

Rotary Week--This coming week is my "Rotary Week". On SaturdaynSeptember 15th, Umesh & I are are attending a Multi-District regional Memebership Seminar that promises a unique & innovative approach to memebrship. On Sunday September 16th, I am joining Cheryl Sivestrini's Booklegger Team in Jordan to help pack children's books. (and maybe glean a few). On Tuesday September 18th & on Thursday September 20th I am accompanying our District Governor Marv Joslyn when he visits the Moravia Club on Tuesday & the Tully Club on Thursday. The Moravia & the Tully Clubs are small but vibrant clubs. Tully is implementing several changes to it's club meeting format. On Saturday September 22nd,  Umesh, Doug Powell & I are attending the Rotary Leadership Institute in VVS for their Graduate Course which will focus on membership. WOW! This means that in the next nine days I will be attending a dizzying six Rotary events & meetings. The Program - Sandy Geltson, Author
Bill Buterbaugh introduced Alexander (Sandy) Geltson, a local resident and published author.  Sandy is an engineer by trade and a self taught writer.  His first book, Hear You Think, is a thriller.  Sandy talked about the writing process including when to write, developing an outline, writing a "hook" in the first few pages to grab the reader's interest, and focusing on a genre.  Sandy's genre is thrillers. Sandy talked about the publishing process which could involve the use of an agent, independent publishing or a combination.  The process includes editing, cover design, participating in writer's organizations, applying for a copyright and implementing a marketing program.  Sandy is currently working on a second book with ideas for a third book percolating. If you're looking for a good read try Hear You Think  by Sandy Geltson.  Thanks to Bill Buterbaugh for inviting Sandy.

DID YOU KNOW?
SHOT OF WHISKEY - In the old west a .45 cartridge for a six-gun cost 12 cents, so did a glass of whiskey. If a cowhand was low on cash he would often give the bartender a cartridge in exchange for a drink. This became known as a "shot" of whiskey.
