Ballgame with DeWitt Rotary & the Chiefs

PRESIDENT'S CORNER ... by Prez Bill
Greetings, Skantarians! Yet another week of outstanding attendance, what with new members and the last few returning snowbirds. Really great feeling to see such a crowd. We continue to march towards summer with our June 1 outing with DeWitt to see a Chiefs game and the pancake breakfast just over the horizon. Our esteemed PDG Ward Vuillemot sold the last of his wine stoppers, hitting his (upward) revised target of $4000 (!!!!) and provided another hand-crafted pen as a reward for a vigilant reader of the Newsletter. Keep turning, Ward! Good luck, one and all at Tops with ticket selling and see you all next Thursday!

Your Board of Directors met last week and the following is a short summary of discussions points and resolutions.
Minutes of last BOD - meeting approved. They are posted on the website.
Skaneateles Rotary Foundation financial statement, supplied by Kathy Crelot, was distributed and reviewed.
Membership - Bill Rosbrook's resignation was approved, with regrets. Bill first joined Rotary in 1987 and is a Paul Harris Fellow.
Ballgame - President Bill will be coordinating the ballgame night with the DeWitt club.
Thank yous/Acknowledgements reviewed - from Dictionary Project, Community Band, Baltimore Woods, YMCA & Early Childhood Center.
Program Schedule - reviewed and discussed y Bill Conole. Kudos to Bill for all the effort he puts into finding these excellent programs. He urged members to send program ideas his way.
By-Laws - will be reviewed and updated, if needed, over the next few months. Review committee is: Mary G., Cheryl S. and Ward V.
Next BOD Meeting - June 8th at 5 PM at the Sherwood.

The Beginnings
Ball Game - Prior to dinner President Bill reminded everyone that on June 1st our meeting will be at the Syracuse Game.
Pancake Tickets - John, Moran passed around a schedule for selling tickets at Tops for our Father's Day Pancake Breakfast.
Pen Winners - Ward announced that 3 members, Chuck O'Neil, Jamie Ciaccio & Suzette Grinnels found the magic words in the Skantarian to win a handcrafted wine stopper. Suzette drew the lucky poker chip for the pen.
Bottle Stoppers for PolioPlus - Ward announced he was only $200 shy of his goal of raising $4,000 for PolioPlus. Before he took his seat, four folks stepped forward to donate $50 each for a stopper, and he had reached his goal.
The Program
Skaneateles Education Foundation - Our speaker Heather Carroll is the Executive Director of the Skaneateles Education Foundation. The mission of this foundation is to invest, enhance & enrich the education of Skaneateles students. Over the past few years the foundation in partnership with our community has seeks to enrich the educational experience of every student.
Heather noted hat last year the foundation funded 23 programs & grants totaling $116,000. These grants were for art programs, Zones of Regulation Training for 2nd grade teachers, improvements to the school's Elementary Stem labs & for Elementary Math & Stem Summer Camps. Heather vividly described some of these grants & explained how they benefited our young students.
The SEF hosts a variety of cultural & fundraising events. The SEF Barn Sale is being held next week. Every year the SEF has a "Stroll for Education where 3 groups of 50 strollers go around the village sampling tasty sips & snacks in a trio of venues. The SEF Jazzed For Education attracted more than 150 guests. Heather urged all of us to support the SEF. Our support will enable he SEF to continue it's worthy mission.

eClubs - TRY THEM, YOU'LL LIKE THEM - For those of us the want to stay in touch with Rotary but are unable to make all of our club meetings, a Rotary eClub is a great option. They are a source of excellent information, project ideas, a window into Rotary activities around the world, and they qualify for an attendance make-ups. You can find time by going to the RI website's Club Finder, which you can find at the top of site's home page, or access direct at; https://www.rotary.org/en/search/club-finder I have visited many eClubs when I am at our condo in Cedar Key, Fl (kinda remote to any Rotary Club). One of my favorites, and very complete eClub is the; Rotary eClub of Southwest USA at: http://www.recswusa.org/ . I would be interested in hearing from other Skaneateles club members, about the eClubs that you explore. Try Them, You'll Like Them!

COUNTING DOWN OF PANCAKES & Tasks Schedule - While the annual Fathers Day Pancake Breakfast is but month away, it is time to save the date on our calendars. Fathers Day this year is June 18th, so please mark that date in ink on your calendar, as well as the Friday AM and Saturday AM before for set-up, and Monday AM afterwards for tear down. This year will mark our 49th consecutive year holding our Club's biggest fund raising event, and we need every Rotarian to participate to insure its continued success!
