Classification Talk - One of our new members, Kathy Crelot, gave her classification talk to the Club.  Kathy spent 20 years in the Navy and Reserves and is recently retired as President and CEO of Finger Lakes Federal Credit Union in Geneva.  Kathy was previously a member of the Geneva Rotary Club and helped with its annual Service Above Self dinner.  She has recently started her own business as a travel agent.  Kathy is excited about being able to give back to the Skaneateles community through the Club’s fundraisers and service projects.
Welcome Back - We also “welcomed back” several members who have been away – Dana Coye, Al Coates, Lee Bennett, and Chuck O’Neil.  Peter Adams is back from vacation and presented the Club with a banner from the Rotary Club of Sint Maarten-Mid Isle which he attended while visiting.
Or Else  - And finally, Amy Tormey reminded all members to wear their name badges, or else…

Auburn Rotary Club Celebrates 100 Years of Community Service.   ... by Bill Conole
This past Sunday evening Ward & June Vuillemot & I joined over one hundred Rotarians & their spouses in the beautiful Springside Inn for the Auburn Rotary Club’s 100th Year Celebration. The Auburn Rotary Club held their first meeting in the Osborn Hotel on April 12, 1915 with 55 founding members. By October 1915 the club had grown to 85 members. In 1928 the Auburn Club became our “parent’ club by helping to start our Skaneateles Rotary Club. Ed Helinski ably & humorously served as the MC for the dinner.
Proclamations saluting the Auburn Club were presented from Auburn’s Mayor, The NYS Senate & Assembly & from NY’s Governor. All of the local Rotary Clubs paid tribute to the Auburn Club for their 100 years of leadership in serving CNY.  The colorful 100 year history of the Auburn Club was recounted. In the club’s early years it assisted Civil War & Spanish American War Veterans.
Throughout their history the club has strived to help young people in need. In January 1930 the club established a scholarship fund to help needy high school students attend college. The Auburn Club is the 3rd oldest club in CNY preceded by the Syracuse Club [founded in 1912] & the Utica Club, [founded in March 1915]. As a result of their recent membership drive the club now has 55 members & aims to catch up to our Skaneateles in membership by the end of this year.
Today the Auburn Club is as vibrant as it ever has been. The club is justifiably proud of how it has perpetuated Rotary’s core values of “Service Above Self.”Just prior to this year’s severe winter, as part of their “Warming Children” project, the club presented 636 needy children with new warm winter coats. During the dinner the club presented scholarships to six Auburn High School students. On Memorial Day this year he club will dedicate a 20 foot high, state of the art, $5700, Rotary Centennial Clock in downtown Auburn. Our Skaneateles club is grateful to our “parent” Auburn Club for the superb example they have set on how to serve our community and our world.
