CLAMS-n-CORN VOLUNTEERS NEEDED ... Jack Hyatt
We still has some openings for volunteers to work the Clams & Corn concession at the Fireman's Days. The fireman support our Pancake Breakfast event with parking assistance and a sound system, this year. Time to give them a helping hand. Jack has the signup sheet and is looking for Rotarians to volunteer for one hour shifts.

PRESIDENTS' CORNER ... by Pres., Mary Giroux
Assemblyman Gary Finch gave an overview of issues affecting all of us in one way or another: Route 81 changes, preservation of our lakes and waterways, the economic status of CNY, the opioid crises and ethics reform. Gary also brought up a 2017 ballot item, a vote for or against a NYS Constitutional Convention. He urged us to be knowledgeable about the issue before casting our votes and reminded us that all votes count. Our club was also presented with a beautiful New York State flag by Assemblyman Finch. Thank you to Tim Donovan for inviting Gary to speak at our meeting!
Raffle Tickets! 98 raffle tickets have been sold for the "Club 200" raffle organized by Cheryl Silvestrini. If my math is correct that means that right now we have $710 "in the bank" for worthy causes after prizes are paid. So let's all pitch in to maximize this project for a total of $2750 for worthy causes. October 5th is the first drawing and we only need to sell 102 more tickets. (see below)
Clams-n-Corn: If you haven't signed up to serve corn and clams at the Fireman's field Days next weekend please consider doing so. Jack Hyatt still has a few times on the schedule that need to be filled. We couldn't do without the Fire Department's help at our pancake breakfast so let's return the favor. (see above)

Assemblyman Gary Finch spoke to the Club about several issues, including opiate addiction and how important and expensive this is. He said the State is helping, but not nearly enough. Not only is it taking the taxpayers’ dollars, there is a stigma attached to this addiction. Assemblyman Finch feels it is clubs like Rotary that need to do something on their own to make a difference.
He talked about the proposed Constitutional Convention and how it works. He reported that Physician-Assisted Suicide is on the ballot. He also mentioned the Ethics Bill in NYS and questions whether this bill will ever be passed.
Assemblyman Finch was asked how we can make the economy better so we don’t lose talented people who are moving out of state. He responded by saying that the Governor has spent millions of dollars on economic development, but we need to cut taxes and that will create more jobs. He said it is important for people like Senator DeFrancisco to stay in the Senate to support this.
Assemblyman Finch was asked about the 81 Corridor issue. He does not feel the grid is a good plan and that this concept will send 80,000 cars and an enormous amount of trucks through the City or into western towns.
In closing, Assemblyman Finch said it is most important to elect people who are honest and to ask what their views are. He encouraged citizens to hold elected officials’ feet to the fire, consider term limits for them, and don’t be afraid to pick up the phone and call your elected officials.

ANNOUNCING - CLUB 200 FUND RAISER
200 Tickets at $20 each are be sold to members, friends & neighbors between now and October when 10 tickets (2 per week) will be drawn weekly with the winners receiving $50 each. The winning tickets will be recycled into the draw-bin for drawings the following weeks. So ..... multiple chances to win on a single ticket.
The whole event ends on Nov 16th, with two tickets will be drawn for $250 & $500. The $200 draw dates are: Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26 & Nov 2, and the $250 & $500 tickets will be drawn on Nov 16.
Cheryl Silvestrini will have the tickets for sale over August & September. Do not miss out on this opprotrunity as it is limited to 200 tickets.
This is fun way for our Club to raise up $2,750 to use for worthy causes throughout the year. We can only make the maximum amount ($2750) if ALL 200 tickets are sold. The key is for ALL members to participate in selling (and buying) tickets.
NOTICE - CLUB BY-LAWS & CONSTITUTION UPDATES.... by Ward
As discussed at the July BOD meeting; Ward, Cheryl & Mary reviewed the club by-laws & constitution to make bring them up to date with RI recommendations and requirements. We found only minor changes required.
By-Laws - Modified references to the Constitution to be consistant with that document. (see page 3, Article 11 Leave of Absence)
Constitution - as "The bylaws of Rotary International provide that each club admitted to membership in RI shall adopt this prescribed standard club constitution", we replaced the old copy of the standard club constitution with the newer accept version from RI. (pages 2 - 13) There are very few subsequent changes of note. One minor change that affects us is that to meet the attendance exempt 85 rule, the Rotary must have been in Rotary for a minimum of 20 years, in addition to the age + years in Rotary = 85, and BOD approved.

Seldom do we have an opportunity to attend a RI International Convention this close to home. The last one was in Montreal 6 or more years ago. So .... Give it some thought and plan on seizing this opportunity to meet Rotarians from around the world and learn of great works they a doing to make this a better world.
