PACK'N FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD - SUNDAY 23rd  .... by Ward Vuillemot
On Sunday, Jul 23, 2017 at 2 PM, the Skaneateles Rotarians and friends will be selecting and packing children's and reference books at the Annual Skaneteles Library book sales, located next to the Village Hall, in the old fire barn.  Once the book sales is over at 2 PM, we will be permitted to glean the books for the CNY Books for the World project.  The selected books will eventually make their way to the children in 3rd world countries via the Rotarian BFTW project.  The gleaning and packing typically takes from one to two hours.  See ye there!

PRESIDENTS' CORNER ... by Pres., Mary Giroux
Last evening our new District Governor, Phyllis Danks, enthusiastically laid out the Rotary vision and goals for the upcoming year.  As a follow up to Phyllis' remarks we will have a Club Assembly at our next meeting .  Please bring any thoughts or ideas you have about what we can do as a club in the 2017-2018 year including service projects, meeting programs, worthy cause support, social outings and anything else you feel is important.  We've done a lot and we can do more, and your input is important.  We also had a productive Board meeting this week which Ward has summarized quite nicely in this week's newsletter (see below).  So, until next week enjoy the sun and avoid the rain.

Shelter Boxes Ward Vuillemot mentioned that Tom Duerson from the Watertown Club will be setting up a "Shelter Box" early Fall in the high school. Our 2016-17 joint SRC & SSRC District Grant was approved for two shelter boxes, and this will be an opportunity display one in Skaneateles as part of the PR for the project.
The Main Event:
President Mary welcomed District Governor Phyllis Danks for her 1st official visit to our club. AG Colleen Weibel introduced DG Phyllis by reviewing her educational, career & Rotary Background.
DG Phyllis opened her presentation by noting that she chose to visit our club early in her tenure because she feels so comfortable & at home with our club. Phyllis outlined her goals for the coming year. Phyllis's 1st goal isto strengthen our clubs. Efforts must be made to gain & to retain new members. Phyllis encouraged clubs to develop a strategic plan with an eye to reaching out to our communities through humanitarian services. Ultimately these efforts will enhance the community's awareness of our clubs & how we serve them. Phyllis encouraged every member to plant a tree this in symbolic support of global warming. Phyllis thanked our members for their warm welcome & for their consistently strong support.
