Each year our club participates in the District's grant program which offers a dollar for dollar match for club projects. We're looking for ideas for a small grant ($500-$1000) for the 2021-2022 year. Funds can be used to fund small scale short term activities that address needs in our community or communities abroad. The project should include Rotarian involvement. In the recent past our grants have helped provide dental equipment to an underserved area, Shelter Boxes, fund for YMCA/Community Center Scholarships, funds for ClearPath for Vets canine program, and construction of paths at Baltimore Woods. If you have an idea let Mary Giroux know (mfgiroux0614@gmail.com). And, there will be Grant Management training on February 27th.

LAST WEEK - Jan 14th, 2021 ... by Mary
Membership/Attendance: 51 Active members 23 attending
Guests: Bill Blessing (past member), Dave Hempson, Sue Guske, Nickie Marquis, Barb Ozminkowski, Peg Bennett, Carolyn Legg, Lynn & Gard McLean, Beth O'Sullivan, Nancy Williams and Mike Tierney
The Beginnings - President Dave welcomed our visitors and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and briefed us on the Special BOD meeting, which was held Monday. (see summary notes below)
The Annual Meeting - President Dave gave a great summary of all of the club's accomplishments during the last 12 months. It is quite impressive what we were able to accomplish in spite of COVID. Dave talked about short and long term goals that he and Terry M are working on with the various club committees including member recruitment, future fundraising, community service and meeting formats. The Annual Meeting was concluded with unanimous approval of the 2021-2022 proposed slate of officers and board members. The President Elect position is still open so if you have an interest get in touch with Dave Lee.
The Program Sue Guske, Nickie Marquis and Dave Hempson were our guests from the Skaneateles Library. Sue briefed us on the plans for the library's future which includes new construction at 75 Fennell Street and retention, preservation and repurposing of the current library building on Genesee Street. After a long and thorough process the library board made the decision to build a new library building that would be more accessible to Village and Town residents, have sufficient parking, be within walking distance in the Village, have a flexible design for muti use purposes, have outdoor space, and be welcoming to all . Expected completion is in three to five years. Estimated cost is $10 million with funds being raised through grants, private donations and an area wide capital campaign.
The current building will be preserved and will have anchor tenants including the Barrows Gallery. The Chamber may relocate to 49 E. Genesee Street and used books for sale may occupy a portion of the building. A number of questions were asked and answered.

New Rotary Opportunities. ... by Ward
Out of all the chaos of the COVID epidemic has come some new an exciting opportunities to access new and exciting venues of Rotary information and happenings. A little sliver of silver among the dark clouds of COVID. Clubs and districts around the world are using virtual venues to share some exciting speakers, programs and ideas. For example; last week the Troy, Michigan Rotary club hosted live RI General Secretary John Hewko with over 1,200 Rotarians from 6 continents around the world participating (see three such opportunities below).
After attending over the years numerous on-site RI International conferences around the world I attended my first virtual RI international conference from my home last spring and have facilitated RLI seminars from comfort of my home office chair, to name just a few. No travel, no fuss, no expense ... and ... great Rotary experiences all ... and I have met many new faces that share the same Rotary excitement and commitments. Oh yes, I do miss the one on one, and face to face contact, but this new virtual world of Rotary forced upon us has been, of necessity, a real bonus. Try it, you'll like it!
