PRESIDENTS' CORNER... by Pres., Doug Powell
A lot has been accomplished so far this summer. I am hopeful that the BOD will be up to full membership shortly, and committees revitalized.
     Berries came in at our farm. There was enough weight on the branches that they bent down to the ground. Many rotarians enjoyed the harvest, and the freezer is full.
     The days are now noticeably shorter as the fall approaches, but first is the season of Harvest or Autumn. This is the season of sharing, caring for each other, making sure each other has enough, collecting what nature provides us. We can see the native animals fatten up for the coming winter, but this brings to mind the generosity of the Rotarians who do service projects to help the needy people around us and around the world. Let’s focus on this—giving and providing. I am eager to see what each Rotarian can think of and propose as service projects. More to come as we design short, concrete projects or monthly events to share with each other and the community.
     Seasons come and go, setting up the next, in order. This is the cycle of life both made for our enjoyment and hard work.
Little Free Library - comes to Skaneateles
A collaboration effort between the Skaneateles Liberary and the Skaneateles Rotary Club has resulted in our community's first Little Free Library located at the entrance of the Skaneateles Conservation Area, on the Seneca Turnpike.  The Little Free Library "Take a Book .. Share a Book" is nation wide project that continues to grow across our land with the objective of sharing books within our communities.  To learn more about this wonderful literacy project ;an how you might participate, visit their website at: https://littlefreelibrary.org
     Pictured is the first Little Free Library constructed by Gary Ozminkowski and painted by Jim McQuiggan and placed with the help of Doug Powell.   The Skaneateles Library will keep it stocked, as needed, on a weekly basis.

LAST WEEK ... by Mary Giroux
The Beginnings:
President Doug and all of the club members warmly welcomed Dana Coye back.  We are happy to see you!  Doug also reported that Polo for Preemies was a success as well as the packing of children's books for Books for the World after the annual Library book sale.  Upcoming service opportunities for club members:
Baltimore Woods Fun Run on Sunday August 18.  Volunteers and participants wanted.  Dale Drake has information about this event.
Playground on Franklin Street needs volunteers on September 16.  Peter Adams has information.
Jordan Festival on September 27th will have books available to pack for Books for the World.  Cheryl Silvestrini is organizing this.
Fireman's Field Days are on August 31 and September 1.  Rotary volunteers needed to serve corn and clams.  Jack Hyatt has sign up sheets.  Remember, the VFD is a great help to us at the Pancake Breakfast.  Let's reciprocate!
Membership and Meetings President Doug briefed members on the Board's recommendation for membership and meeting changes (see Board summary),  Changes will be posted in newsletter and voted on by general membership on August 22.
The Program  Bill Conole introduced Chris Legg as our speaker.  Chris received an enthusiastic welcome from the club as a fellow Rotarian (Skaneateles Sunrise Club' current President) and a valued member of the community.  Chris told us about his experiences while serving in the Navy and being posted at the 38th parallel in Korea from July 1990 til July 1991.  Chris gave us an overview of the history of how the 38th parallel came to be the divider between North Korea and South Korea. As a negotiator, Chris met with the North Korean representatives on a daily basis in the joint security area. Chris also shared some kimchu with the club.
50-50 -  Was won by Terry McCormick
Guests  Terry McComick, Chris Legg & Carolyn Legg
Members = 51, Attendance = 24 or 48%
