Skaneateles Rotary Club grows ... by Ward
Thursday, July 17th the Skaneateles Rotary Club inducted Rosemary Mondo as its newest member who is sponsored by Mary Giroux. The induction, performed by Membership Chair, Tyler Lorey  .... and .... our club's very first accomplished via Zoom (we are currently practicing social distancing).
Rosemary lives in Skaneateles and shares her travel and cultural expertness with others through Via Mondo, a full-serve travel agency and tour company.  Rosemary and her Healthy Travels was recently featured in the Syracuse Women magazine.  We are looking forward to Rosemary's active participation in our club as we provide service for our local and international communities though "Service Above Self" in Rotary.
LAST WEEK - Jun 25, 2020 ... by Mary
Membership/Attendance:  - 48 Active members - 14 attending.
Guests:  Jason Armijo (proposed member - see notice below), Doug Hill, Alec Oseicki & Wendy Drastal (prospective members).
Program:
President Dave opened the Zoom meeting by welcoming our guests:  Doug Hill, former Club member and State Farm Agent, Wendy Drastel who has recently returned to Skaneateles, Jason Aroyo, proposed new member and Alex Osiecki who has attended previous meetings.
Doug Hill had good news for the club.  He announced that because we were not able to have the Pancake Breakfast, our major fundraiser, State Farm would make a $500 donation to our foundation.  Thanks to Doug and State Farm for this generous donation.
Tyler Lorey, our Membership Chair, warmly welcomed and inducted our newest member Rosemary Mondo to the club.  Rosemary is a welcome addition to the club and we are delighted to have her as a new member. (see announcement above)
Future meeting format and schedules were discussed.  Terry and Jay researched and found an app for scheduling small in person meetings hosted by club members having enough space for social distancing.  Suzette volunteered to host the first meeting on Thursday, July 23rd.  More info to follow.
Having an in person meeting at the American Legion on July 30th was discussed and Robin, Bill B and Ed will coordinate that meeting.
President Dave asked that we help our long time Program Chair Bill C with ideas for future programs. Dave said that Bill has done a great job with this challenging task and ideas would be appreciated.
Pres Dave also asked for club members to step up and help with the Community Service and Activities Committee which is headed by Jay S.  The more members involved the more successful we will be!
And lastly, please be sure and read the weekly newsletter edited by Ward.  It contains a plethora of information.

NOTICE - Membership Proposal
Tyler Lorey has submitted Jason Amijo's application for the membership to the BOD, which was approved on July 6th.  Jason's occupation is Carpentry and he resides in Skaneateles at 9 State St. with his wife Katie.  Jason has attended a number of our meetings over the past few months and participated in the Father's Day Pancake Breakfast over the past several years..  Tyler is Jason's sponsor.  If there are no objections by the membership, submitted in writing to the club Secretary by July 22th, he will be eligible to be inducted into our membership, once he has received Rotary information and met the club dues requirements.
ROTARY ADDS NEW AREA OF FOCUS
Rotary International's Board of Trustees approved a brand new SEVENTH area of focus for our organization: Supporting the Environment. “It is time for us to use our collective resources to invest in a smart and efficient way to protecting our environment,” says Foundation Trustee Chair Gary C.K. Huang. “We are qualified to take this initiative because we are a global group of problem solvers with diversified talents.” Creating a distinct area of focus to support the environment will give Rotary members even more ways to bring about positive change in the world and increase our impact. More information about this new cause will be announced soon. CLICK HERE for the full announcement.
eClubs - an EXCELLENT & Fun Option .... by Ward
During this time of travel restrictions, many of us would like to stay in touch with the Rotarians in other parts of the country and world,  a Rotary eClub is a great option.  They are a source of excellent information, project ideas, a window into Rotary activities around the world, and they qualify for an attendance make-ups.  You can find time by going to the RI website's Club Finder, which you can find at the top of site's home page, or access direct at; https://www.rotary.org/en/search/club-finder   I have visited many eClubs when I travel or want to experience a totally different club setting.   One of my favorites, and very complete eClub is the; Rotary eClub of Southwest USA athttp://www.recswusa.org/  .  I would be interested in hearing from other Skaneateles club members, about the eClubs that you explore.  Try Them, You'll Like Them!
