LAST WEEK - May 6th, 2021 ... by Mary Membership/Attendance: 53 Active members with 15 attending Guests: Mary Sennett, Skaneateles Village Mayor The Beginnings- President Dave opened the meeting by welcoming everyone. After the Pledge of Allegiance an inspiration was read. Next week's meeting will be at the American Legion pavilion (see article above). Thanks to Robin, Ed and Bill B for organizing the meeting. Paul Harris awards will be made and it will be great to everyone in person! Dave read a "thank you" from the Skaneateles Ecumenical Food Pantry for our recent delivery of food. The Program - Bill C introduced Mary Sennett, newly elected Mayor of Skaneateles, as our guest speaker. Mary didn't really need an Introduction given all that she has done for the community and as Bill stated "We're very fortunate to have Mary." Mary brought us up to date on several significant projects that are underway in the Village: (1) Installation of a new transformer that will enable a more equal shift of power when required and extend the life of the existing transformers. (2) Resolution to New York State by both the Village and Town requesting an amendment allowing regulation of building on the lake shoreline. (3) Repairs to Kelly Street bridge to keep it operational until the 2023/2024 Federal grant money is available for bridge replacement. There will also be a more functional sidewalk, (4) West Elizabeth Street bridge inspection reports indicate structural concerns and the Village has submitted a draft request for funding for repairs. (5) In response to concerns expressed about vehicular traffic the Village will be installing additional speed reminders and install signs that will actually collect data indicating which hours are more prone to speeding. In addition, the Village is working with the Syracuse Metropolitan Transportation Council on a pedestrian/traffic study within the Village. Mary also talked about the following new initiatives to be undertaken: (1) Improve communication between the Village and community by implementing a Village Facebook page for posting news and announcements. (2) Creating an Environmental Advisory Committee. (3) Making outside dining permanent in the Village. Mary also answered a number of questions. Wanted - If you have a favorite inspirational saying please send it to President Dave to be read at a meeting. The Ending: Chuck W led us in the Four Way Test |
