LAST WEEK... by Mary Giroux
The Beginnings - Club members enjoyed each other's company during dinner and welcomed Dave Piper back. We are happy to have Dave feeling better!
The Program - President Doug opened the Club Assembly meeting.
Concert in the Park - Next week's meeting will be at the Symphoria concert at Allyn Arena. Bill Buterbaugh is organizing the event. A Rotary table will be set up and members are encouraged to bring spouses, significant others and friends. We will meet at 6:30 and the concert begins at 7:00. Bring a picnic dinner or you may order a boxed meal provided by the Sherwood by contacting Bill by Tuesday the 23rd. A cooler of water and soft drinks and cookies for dessert will be provided. Thanks to Bill for arranging this event!
Ribs, Rythm and Blues - Bill Conole reminded us that the Auburn Rotary event is the weekend at Emerson Park, Friday thru Sunday. If you like barbecued ribs this is the place to go!
Club Business - President Doug talked about making changes in our club's membership rules and meeting structure to foster meaningful club growth in the future. The following were discussed:
Changing club by laws and constitution with regard to attendance to reflect that rather than having an attendance requirement, the expectation of members is that they participate in 50% of club meetings and activities.
Each current member is asked to invite one person to Rotary to see what we are about
Involve new members immediately in a committee,
Offer new members the opportunity to lerad a community service project with backing of the club both with funds and member involvement
Revise club meeting format to have four meetings per month as follows: one club assembly. one meeting with a speaker, one social meeting and one community service project
Invite spouses and significant others to be involved in meetings and community service projects
Have committees report status each month at the club assembly
Hold a recruitment drive in September/October time frame
The goal for making changes to club by laws and constitution and then implementing any changes is by September 1st. Club members will vote on any changes after they are approved by the Board.
Also discussed was having a Thank You event for local merchants. Merchants and businesses have supported our projects and events in many ways and this event would be to recognize their support and show our appreciation.
Polo for Preemies - Chris Cheney reminded us about this fund raising event for the Crouse Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The event is at the polo field on Sunday the 28th beginning at 1:00. Yard signs were available for members to put up
