PRESIDENTS' CORNER ... by Pres., Bill Conole
As Bob Dylan proclaimed in his famous song "The Times Are a-Changin". Today Rotary Clubs & almost all volunteer organizations & clubs in the US are facing similar challenges in recruiting & retaining young members. Several neighboring Rotary Clubs are taking aggressive & innovative steps to attract new young members. Some of these clubs are experiencing positive results by implementing changes. In the coming months our club will research & review ways our club can address the "changin Times". As District Governor Marv noted last night, Rotary is such a powerful force to our community's common good that all Rotarians must make every effort to sustain Rotary for our future generations.
PLAY BALL!----On Thursday August 30th our club will go to Falcon Park to enjoy a relaxing evening watching an Auburn Doubledays Baseball Game. So mark your calendars.

The Beginnings
Introductions - President Bill introduced our new District Governor Marv Joslyn and his wife Janet. Marv hails from the Baldwinsville Club.
"We got the grant!" - Good news delivered by Cathy Powell who worked diligently on the District grant application for funds to match the Club's contribution to the YMCA. These funds are to provide access to services at the YMCA to individuals and families who would not be able to afford them.
Club Directories - Ward handed out the ever so useful directories for the 2018-2019 year. Directories will be mailed to those not in attendance. Any changes in information should be reported to Ward. The directories are greatly appreciated. Thanks Ward!
Wine Stopper - Ward presented a beautifully hand made wine stopper to Marv Joslyn. Marv announced that the wine stopper would be given to the first Rotarian submitting a correct answer to the question posed in next month's District newsletter. Ward announced that he has some stoppers in inventory if anyone is interested in one. President Bill noted that Ward has raised in excess of $13,000 with his wine stopper project, an accomplishment for Ward to be proud of!
Fish stories - Dan Roche and Robin Jowaisas were welcomed back from their fishing adventure in Montana.
The Program - DG Marv's Office Club Visit
DG Marv Joslyn thanked the club for having him and recognized Bill Conole as our new Assistant District Governor and Ward Vuillmot as a former District Governor noting that it "will be hard to follow in Ward's footsteps."
Marv spoke about the following:
Be the Inspiration - This year's Rotary theme. Club members were asked to add to the huge poster of comments about what that theme means.
Acts of Kindness - Clubs are being asked to develop a plan to do acts of kindness and document those acts for the District.
Passport Program - This is a carryover from last year's program but a bit easier to satisfy the requirements as only two club members are required to attend another club's event or assist with a service project.
World Polio Day - Marv is asking that all clubs in the District somehow celebrate and acknowledge this important day to Rotary, October 24th.
Membership - Rotary membership in District 7150 has slowly declined over the years. Marv has a goal to increase District membership from 1172 members to 1200 members in the upcoming year. There are three important steps to accomplish this: ASK someone to become a member, WELCOME the new member, and ENGAGE the new member immediately.
President Bill Conole thanked DG Marv for his insights and introduced Craig Froelich as our newest member.
50/50 - Was won by DG Marv Josyln who generously donated his winnings back to the club.

At the June 28th meeting four of our club members were recognized as Paul Harris Fellows. Together, as a club, we make a positive impact on local and global communities through fundraising efforts and service projects. The following club members have individually and generously supported the Rotary Foundation. These contributions enable the Rotary foundation to carry out many programs though out the world.

YE WELCOME HOME DINNER... by Ward
This past Wednesday, I attended the District's annual Welcome Home Dinner for our returning 2017-18 Youth Exchange students. It is always an exciting event hearing the students recap their year's experiences and adventures of their year abroad. I rank this yearly event among my Rotary highlights as I never tire of hearing of our youth's life changing exchanges and it reminds me why I am a Rotarian.
