Your Board of Directors met last Thursday, April 14th and the following is a summary of discussions points and resolutions.
  • SRF Review - Kathy Crelot reviewed the Skaneateles Rotary Foundation's income & expenses, YTD.
  • Peter Adams Resignation - Peter submitted a letter of resignation, which was approved.  Peter's busy schedule does not currently permit him adequate time for participation in the club. He plals to return, if possible, at a later date.
  • President Elect - Several names were discussed for this important position. They will be contacted to see if they are interest.
  • Fund Raising Raffle -Prez. Cheryl presented a plan for implementing a raffle as a means of fundraising (dates for selling tickets, dates for drawing winners, amounts of prize money, number of tickets to be sold,  and price for a ticket). With the number of tickets (200) , the price per ticket ($20), and the cost of prizes ($1500) , the SRC will make $2500.The Board approved the raffle details. Cheryl will look into a source of  tickets.
  • Proposed Member - The application for Chris Cheney was presented to the BOD, and accepted.  His name will be put before the membership in the newsletter, and he will be schedule for Rotary information prior to his induction.

LAST WEEK: .... by William Conole
President Cheryl reminded members that our District Conference is being held in just two weeks. Since this year's conference is in nearby Auburn our should make a strong showing. Cheryl also encouraged members to attend the Annual Chamber of Commerce Dinner on May 24th in the SCC. This year the Chamber is honoring the former Administrator of NASA, Sean O'Keefe.

David Lee, longtime member of the Skaneateles Library Board of Trustees introduced our speakers , Danette Davis & Gina La Rosa Benedict. Gina & Danette are also trustees. Gina opened their presentation by noting that Skaneateles is one of two libraries in the state that operates without any community-based funding. For over a century, the Library has relied on private fund raising & from private fund raising. In 2016 the Library's funding is no longer sustainable. As a result the library must now seek support from the Skaneateles Central School District. To put our Library on a sustainable financial foundation, the Library is asking school district residents for $350,000 in community based funding. Gina pointed out that for a home in the school district assessed at $250,000, community based funding will be $55 per year or $1.06 per week.
Danette reviewed how many people in our community use our Skaneateles Library. In 2105 more than 67,000 people visited our library. The Library computers were used more than 1600 times. About 59,000 items were circulated. Providing these vital educational & cultural programs & services makes our Library one of our most prized community assets. With the additional funding provided by the proposition our Library will be able to increase programs & to enhance services. With additional funding our Library will upgrade it's computers  & expand creative capabilities. After many member questions were responded to, John O'Sullivan rose to make a ringing endorsement of our Library. John stressed that our Library is a community jewel & he urged all of members to support our Library by voting for the Library funding proposition on Tuesday May 17th in the Waterman Elementary School.
