THE PROGRAM: Lee Bennett and Bill Stevens introduced Marie Anick. Marie is from France and spent the 2006/2007 school year as a Rotary exchange student in Skaneateles. Bill and Mary Stevens hosted Marie for seven months while she was in Skaneateles. Bill said that Marie was their "special daughter." Marie currently lives in Saint Nazaire with her significant other, Vincent, and her two children. It is about 40 minutes outside Paris and the setting is conducive to some of their favorite activities: walking, biking and "slow travel". Marie's profession is urban planning. She spoke of re purposing older buildings in her city, integrating lower income families and individuals into neighborhoods and changing the image of neighborhoods. In summary Marie attributed much of her success to her Rotary experience as it gave her confidence, open mindedness, a love of meeting new people from different cultures and great memories. Thanks to Marie for showing us how meaningful the exchange student experience can be. 50-50 RAFFLE: Craig was the lucky winner but alas, did not pull the Queen of Hearts. The pot is growing! THE ENDING: Bill Stevens led us in the (Four + one) Five Way Test! Andy thanked the Sherwood staff for their hospitality and Marie for her great presentation. |
