PRESIDENTS' CORNER ... by Pres., Bill Conole
On July 4thAmerica pauses to celebrate our 242ndBirthday & to commemorate our founding fathers &our great leaders, soldiers, sailors, airmen & marines who made it possible for us to live in such a great nations. Now, as in times past, our generation must play it’s part in preserving our nation’s longstanding & deeply treasured freedoms.
As Rotarians we have a unique opportunity to promote our nation’s “common good”. As Rotarians we can best do this by always striving to put “service above self”.
I want o take this opportunity to salute our outgoing president Mary Giroux for the excellent way she led & guided our club during the past year. I look forward to serving as our club president in the coming year.
Please join us for our 1stmeeting of our new Rotary Year this Thursday July 12th. See you on Thursday.

SRC Bookleggers at Work .... by Ward
For the 9th straight year, Skaneteles Rotarians (BookLeggers) completed a very  successful book staging, gleaning & packing Sunday afternoon at the Skaneateles Library book sale.  WHAT A TEAM!
Three full pallets of excellent; children, reference, history and fiction books were packed and staged for pickup.  That's 72 cartons or about 3 ton of books to be sent to developing countries.  A banner year and a great to kick off a new Rotary year.
The attached is a picture of this year’s Skaneateles BookLeggers.  Missing is Alice & Hal who needed to leave before picture time, and Marv and David, who along with Chuck help load some books and stage the project Saturday morning, and Ward who was behind the camera.  .
A special thanks go Paula Conan and the Skaneateles Friends of the Library who help make this all possible.
Host families needed … help spread the word!
Skaneateles has a remarkable history of sending students around the world and receiving students from around the world.
In 2018-19, the Skaneateles Rotary Club will send four students around the globe (to Japan, Paraguay, Taiwan and Austria). In exchange, we will welcome two exchange students to our community, our high school and our homes. Tymoteusz Juncewicz  will come from Poland and Gahyeon Han  will come from South Korea.
We need your help! Can you host? Would you like to know more?  Or do you know someone who might want to know more?
We need three families for each student. (Exchange students experience three families during their year abroad).
Since 1996, the Skaneateles Rotary Club has welcomed 79 in-bound Rotary Youth Exchange students and has sent 105 out-bound students.
We need help because it has become harder to find host families in recent years.
To learn more, ask any member of our Youth Exchange Committee:  Gard Lorey (727-5461), Karen Price, Dale Drake, Jim McQuiggan, Lori Ruhlman (729-2831).
We are all committed to this program because we sent our children abroad.  We also have all hosted (multiple times) and have found the experience enriching -- and well worth the modifications that must be made for the short time period. We now have "children" all around the world!

Rockin' With Rotary - July 20-22

Auburn Rotarians are gearing up for the second annual Rotary Ribs Rhythm & Blues Festival, July 20-22 on Deauville Island at Emerson Park in Auburn. We've added a free concert night for Friday July 20th featuring a Syracuse favorite, Chief Big
Way!

The Rotary Ribs Rhythm & Blues Festival is a Kansas City BBQ Society (KCBS) sanctioned event and New York State championship. Both amateur and professional BBQ teams from the Northeast and Canada compete for the best ribs, brisket, pork and chicken. And several of these teams will be selling their BBQ! The weekend's Grand Champion receives an automatic invitation to the Jack Daniels National Championship in October. The music is Rhythm & Blues, with great performers from Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo and Woodstock, NY. Tickets are $10 for adults, $12 for kids ages 12 and under. We invite and welcome all District 7150 Rotarians to come and enjoy this great event with us.
