The Program: District Governor's official visit
We welcomed our special guests this week, new District Governor (DG), Dana Jerrard, and Assistant DG, Charlie Smith. Dana has been a Rotarian since 1986, and he and wife, Cathy have three adult children.
Dana spoke on this year’s RI theme “Serve to Change Lives”. He shared stories and photos of how District grants changed lives, both locally in Utica, and internationally in Chili and Brazil, South America.
In Utica, an open and free access refrigerator was established as a mini-food pantry for the needy outside a homeless shelter. The fridge, painted in urban de rigueur graffiti, was taken as a project by Greater Utica Rotary Club to stock and clean. Early concerns about the project of abuse and excess were quickly dissolved.
Recognizing a critical safety need, Chili, a Rotarian took up the cause to outfit the community firefighters. The local volunteer squad was responding to alarms in street clothes and flip-flops. Securing a global grant to collect, sanitize, and sort gear from across New York State, the $6,000 initial funds resulted in supplying the firefighters with an estimated $1 million in tactical gear and equipment.
With no emergency transportation response infrastructure available, neighbors and family resorted to acute health events by driving them, if they were able, to the local clinic. Utica RC championed an international RI grant of $41,000 resulting in a transformative “mobile critical care” ambulance – complete with Rotary logo on the front cabin doors. The project was spearheaded by a Rotarian who had been a Youth Exchange student in Brazil.
Dana sent the Club a follow-up email: “Please extend my thanks to the rest of the club for their warmth and hospitality. The Skaneateles club sets the standard in our district in so many ways; your club visit was one of the easy ones!”

District 7150 Guidance- Holding Rotary Club Meetings and Events starting July 1, 2021
*** This is not District Policy. It is suggestive and being offered to provide guidance for conducting club meetings and events after July 1, 2021.
Here are General Principles from Rotary International regarding Meetings and Events:
The health and safety of all participants in Rotary programs, meetings, and events is very important.
All organizers of Rotary meetings and events shall fully comply with all health and safety rules in effect in that location.
No in-person Rotary meeting or event shall be mandatory for any participant who may feel uncomfortable attending because of the pandemic.
All organizers of Rotary meetings and events are strongly encouraged to consider all health concerns in deciding whether to hold in-person meetings.
Event and meeting organizers are encouraged to offer hybrid solutions.
Members should feel comfortable to wear masks and social distance while attending in-person meetings or events. Some might prefer not to hug or shake hands.
Further, it is a recommendation, not a requirement, that Rotarians do not attend meetings and events in-person if not vaccinated.

Thank you for considering the safety of others as we do the good work of Rotary.
