DID YOU KNOW ?
The football huddle was first used at a college for the deaf in the 1890's so the players could keep their signing hidden from the opposing teams?
LAST WEEK ... by Mary Giroux
The Beginnings  Doug Powell, President Elect, took the gavel for Bill Conole who is away for the week.
Thank You Notes - Doug opened the meeting by reading thank you's from Laker Limo and the Spafford Food Pantry.
Women's Day - Plans for the 5th annual Women's Day event are underway with Amy Tormey leading the  way.
The Program- Youth Exchange Students
Gard Lorey opened the program by thanking everyone, especially host families, who work so hard to make our student exchange program a success.
Karen Price then introduced Sharla Dart, short term exchange student to Sweden during the summer of 2018.  Sharla is an honor student, active Interact member, celloist and in addition worked 3 jobs to pay for her exchange experience!  Sharla fondly recounted her travels with her host family throughout Sweden.  Her experience included playing a cello made in Sweden that  is valued at $80,000!
Karen then introduced Han Gahyeon, our lovely student from South Korea.  Han is not a stranger, having attended many of our meetings.  Han shared her home country of South Korea with a beautiful slide presentation and video.  In addition to historical palaces, forts and temples South Korea also stands out with technological achievements. Han also talked about her family and school in  South Korea (where the school day is from 8am til 10pm).  Han's bright smile surely conveys her enthusiasm for her "Skaneateles experience."
50-50 - Won by Cathy Powell, however the Queen is still in hiding.
Club 200 -  $50 apiece to our friend Bill Stevens and Dana Coye
Guests Our exchange students Sharla Dart and Han Gahyeon. Sharla's Mom Barb Dart, Grandmother Barb Sliter and Sister Alyssa Dart, Michael and Helen Glowacki, host parents, and Francis Conole (Bill's son)

200 Club Fundraiser ... by Cheryl
It may not be as exciting as cracking eggs or flipping pancakes, but the “200 Club” Raffle is an easy way to raise money to benefit community and youth groups.  Here’s how it works:  we sell 200 tickets at $20 each for a total of $4,000.  We give away $1250 in prizes which leaves us with $2750 to use for worthy causes.
We will sell tickets starting 10/18/18.  Two $50 prizes will be drawn at our Club Meetings on  1/3, 1/10, 1/24, 1/31 & 2/7.  On 2/7, we will draw a $250 winner, as well as the $500 Grand Prize winner.  Also, all weekly winners will be put back into the raffle and be eligible for the Grand Prize!
We need to sell all 200 tickets for this raffle to work as outlined, so please consider selling at least 5 tickets to family, friends, co-workers, etc. – and don’t forget to buy your own!  Cheryl will have tickets available at all weekly meetings.  If paying by check, please make payable to Skaneateles Rotary Foundation.  Be sure the contact information is completed on the ticket and give that portion of the ticket to Cheryl along with ticket money/checks.  Thank you and good luck to everyone!
