Greetings, Skantarians! This past week's meeting gave us a chance to meet two of this year's Boys State attendees and our latest slate of exchange students. Youth was served, indeed. We also enjoyed the first round of the weekly drawings; very lucrative for the two lucky winners. And last, the Club was able to reciprocate the generosity of the SVFD by helping out at this year's carnival. Thank you one and all for volunteering - great way to finish the summer! ANNUAL PICNIC - Mark Your Calendars
Sept. 15th, 6 to 8 PM - The Annual Pancake Breakfast Thank you and Incoming Youth Exchange Welcome event is to be held at the St James Church Fellowship Hall. This is a family/spouse/guest event. Planned menu is: Menu to be announced in upcoming notices. We ask our Rotarians to bring an appetizer.

Our Program - Patrick, ”Packy” Taylor opened the 2016 Boys State program with a brief history of Boys State since its founding in 1937. Every state in our nation has a Boys & Girls State Program. Packy briefly described how Boys State is structured into mock cities, counties & states. This year our American Legion Post sent 4 candidates to Boys State in SUNY Morrisville. Packy introduced two of these candidates: Joe Capozza & Joe Benendict.
Joe Capozza led off by describing a typical Boys State day. Every day at 0530 Marines led the boys in a brisk PT session. Throughout the day the Marine Drill Instructors drilled the boys on how military “drill & ceremonies” & on military marching. The drilling & the classes on how to set up a democratic city or state government were regimented & intense. By nightfall the boys were tired but Joe stressed that he was tired in a “good Way”. Joe Capozza said that he feels that Boys State definitely prepared to go out into our world. Joe thanked Rotary for supporting Boys State & for giving him this great opportunity.
Joe Benedictconfessed that just prior to leaving for Boys State he tried to get out of it. When he arrived at Boys State he joined the marching band because he heard it got you out of PT. Each day the marching had to do PT. Joe quickly discovered that he liked PT & he grew to admire & to like the Marines who drilled & marched the boys all day, every day. Joe made many friends in the Boys State Marching Band & was impressed at how rapidly the band members bonded & learned to play their instruments while marching in military formation. Joe joined Joe Capozza in thanking our Rotary Club for sponsoring Boys State & for giving him such a great opportunity.

200 Club Drawing - The 2 winning $50 tickets were drawn for: Patty Williams & Jean Sardino. Throughout September $50 drawings will be made at each meeting. In our October 6th meeting a$250 & a grand prize $750 ticket will be drawn.
Our 50/50 winner- the winning draw was Peter Anderson. To loud cheers & applause Peter won a big jackpot by drawing the elusive Queen
