PRESIDENTS' CORNER ... by Pres., Mary Giroux
Harvey & Irma - Let's keep Floridians in mind over the next few days as they prepare for Irma as well as our friends in Texas and Louisiana as they continue to recover from Harvey.
Boy's State - Packy Taylor graciously thanked our club for our support of Boy's State over the years and told us about the transformation that takes place over the week's time for 900 young men.   Thanks to Packy for sharing this with us and for being a dedicated  part of the process of developing leadership skills in our youth.  And, thanks to Bill Conole, our program chair for arranging Packy's visit.
RLI - Marty Hahn, fellow Rotarian from Auburn, ran her "Blue Light Special" for the upcoming Rotary Leadership Institute in Verona.  We look forward to hearing from attending club members about their experience.
YE - Gard shared a thank you" from Josef, one of last year's  exchange students  and thanks to club members helping our new student, Kashyap, with the purchase of a soccer uniform.
Picnic - Our "thank you" picnic is in two weeks, September 21 at St James so please invite anyone that volunteered at our pancake breakfast and remember to RSVP.
I hope you enjoy your weekend and see you next Thursday

NOTICE - CLUB BY-LAWS & CONSTITUTION UPDATES .... by Ward
As discussed at the July BOD meeting; Ward, Cheryl & Mary reviewed the club by-laws & constitution to make bring them up to date with RI recommendations and requirements.  We found only minor changes required.
  • By-Laws - Modified references to the Constitution to be consistant with that document. (see page 3, Article 11 Leave of Absence)
  • Constitution - as "The bylaws of Rotary International provide that each club admitted to membership in RI shall adopt this prescribed standard club constitution", we replaced the old copy of the standard club constitution with the newer accept version from RI. (pages 2 - 13) There are very few subsequent changes of note. One minor change that affects us is that to meet the attendance exempt 85 rule, the Rotary must have been in Rotary for a minimum of 20 years, in addition to the age + years in Rotary = 85, and BOD approved.
You can access copies of these document on the website in the under Club By-Laws & Constitution, in the Site Pages, on theleft side of the Home page.  A Login is not required.

We will vote to accept (or reject) these changes at this week's meeting; September 14th

LAST WEEK: .... by Cheryl Silvestrini
RLI - Marty Hahn from the Auburn Rotary Club spoke about the upcoming Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) and encouraged members to attend.  Ward reminded us that our Club will reimburse our members for the registration fee.
200 Club - Cheryl reminded us of the need to support the 200 Club raffle, and reviewed how it works.  (see more info below)
C or C Speaker Series - Kathy Crelot spoke about an upcoming discussion, “Cybersecurity in an Interconnected World”, being sponsored by the Skaneateles Chamber of Commerce.  It is on Wednesday, September 20, 5:30 -7:30 p.m.
Picnic - Lori Ruhlman reminded the Club that the picnic to thank the pancake volunteers and to welcome the exchange students will be held on Thursday, September 21st, at 6 p.m. at St. James.  She sent a sign-up sheet around and also asked for Rotarians to help with the picnic.  Members are asked to bring an appetizer.
The Program - Patrick “Packy” Taylor was the featured speaker of the evening.  He spoke about Boys State and said he was happy to have been a counselor this year.  He thanked our club for its continued support of this very important program, which is run through the American Legion.  Boys State attracts the brightest young men in the state.  962 boys from New York State attended this year and there were four boys from the Skaneateles area.

50/50 - Was won by Dale Drake. To everybody's frustration, the queen of spades remains hidden deck of 13 cards.
Guests -  Marty Huane & Packy Taylor
Attendance - Members attending: 23 at 39% attendance
Current Membership - 59
The SRC Board of Directors have approved reimbursement of RLI tuition fees during the 2017-18 Rotary year.

To attempt to superimpose its views through the exercise of force, is seldom the part of intelligence; it is frequently the part of ignorance."
ANNOUNCING - CLUB 200 FUND RAISER
200 Tickets at $20 each are be sold to members, friends & neighbors between now and October when 10 tickets (2 per week) will be drawn weekly with the winners receiving $50 each.  The winning tickets will be recycled into the draw-bin for drawings the following weeks.   So ..... multiple chances to win on a single ticket.
The whole event ends on Nov 16th, with two tickets will be drawn for $250 & $500.  The $200 draw dates are:  Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26 & Nov 2, and the $250 & $500 tickets will be drawn on Nov 16.
Cheryl Silvestrini will have the tickets for sale over August & September.   Do not miss out on this opprotrunity  as it is limited to 200 tickets.
This is fun way for our Club to raise up $2,750 to use for worthy causes throughout the year.  We can only make the maximum amount ($2750) if ALL 200 tickets are sold.  The key is for ALL members to participate in selling (and buying) tickets.
