PRESIDENT'S CORNER ... by Prez Bill
Greetings Skantarians! This past Thursday, after a Board meeting, we enjoyed a more informal, intimate setting due to reduced attendance from the storm. Winter is indeed upon us and it bears repeating - if you are not comfortable traveling in such conditions, please stay home! You'll be with us in spirit and PP Bill Conole's summary of the meeting will be available in the newsletter a few days later, so you'll be up to speed.
Board Nomination & Volunteer Needed - At the Board meeting we accepted nominations for a number of approaching vacancies, most of which were addressed by current members agreeing to continue to serve in their current roles, thank you one and all; the exception was Dale Drake, a new and welcome face. Welcome aboard, shipmate! These nominations were voted on and approved at the open meeting. On this note, PP and current Executive Secretary Ward Vuillemot announced he will not be extending in this capacity past the end of this Rotary year. It is vital a successor be identified ASAP in order to begin their apprenticeship. This is a pivotal position and Ward's knowledge of all things Rotary is encyclopedic. He has agreed to carry on as a mentor and consultant, so we'll have a backstop, but this is a luxury. I will be addressing this issue at every opportunity until we have a candidate; please consider serving. Thank you
SKANEATELES BOOKLEGGERS AT WORK  ... by Ward
In the past week, some of our Skaneateles Rotary Bookleggers, sorted and packed two full pallets of books at the SHS, which will make their way to the children of the world through CNY Books for the World.  Kudos to:  Gary Ozminkowski, Mary Giroux, Bill Conole, Dave Piper, Roy MacDonald and Ward.... and to the SHS maintenance crew, which assisted us with the sort/pack set up in their facilities.

Your Board of Directors met last week and the following is a summary of discussions points and resolutions.

  • Global Grant Participation - Approved to set aside $2,550 for the Global Grant To Fight Addiction underwritten  by CNY Rotary clubs & districts, as well as clubs & districts in Mexico and Canada.  More information to come.
  • Membership - Bill Stevens' resignation as accepted with GREAT REGRETS.  He has been invited to join the Fairport RC in his new hometown.
  • Program Review - by Bill Conole.  He is putting together a interested list of programs for this winter and spring.
  • Officers & Director - state approved for the club to vote upon.  See Prez. Notes above of details.
  • Help Wanted: Ward reminded the Board that is resigning as Exec-Secretary as of June 30.  A volunteer to fill the position is needed so the transition can commence in the Spring.
  • Next BOD Meeting - Jan 12th.

LAST WEEK: .... by Bill Conole
After a Lively Board Meeting, fourteen stalwart Rotarians met during a howling "lake Effect " snow storm. Aside from our fourteen members the Inn was virtually empty. In spite of this our members enjoyed a warm evening of conversation & fellowship. President Bill & Dave Lee worked out some of the details for our exciting January 5th Program when we are hosting an Eagle Scout Induction Ceremony for four exceptional young Skaneateles Boy Scouts. President Bill polled the members present about meeting next week. The members agreed to do so. Jack Emmer led off the Happy Dollars by exulting on his Army team's victory over Navy after a 14 year losing streak.
Guests:  SCHS Ensemble--Joe Benedict, Ben Blackwell, Hannah Jane Drake, Connor Driscoll, Hope Glowacki, Adrianna Marshall, Exchange Students--Benjamin Mitterlehner, Austria, Elisa Riaud France---many spouses & guests.
50/50 - Won by Brad McLennan  ... and the Queen of Spades still hides in the deck.
Attendance - Members attending: 14 at 24 % attendance
Current Membership - 59

CNY BFTW CHANGES

Ward Vuillemot, founder of Rotarian CNY Books for the World, has stepped down as President of CNY BFTW Inc. and will continue on in a supporting role for the next year as Exec-Director.

The incoming president, Hal Brown, a Tully Rotarian, has been with the project almost since its inception a little most than 8+ years ago, and will be a very knowledgeable and capable leader of the organization. The rest of the folks (all Rotarians) have been a part of the CNY BFTW group as leaders for some time and will continue to give their support to the BFTW efforts.

Ward presented Hal with an English Gavel that he crafted for the occasion, which has a Rotarian Booklegger logo set in the gavel & block, as a token of the" Changing of the Guard".

RING THE BELL - Our annual Salvation Army Kettle project, at the Tops Market commences Friday, December 9th.  The schedule can be found on our WEBSITE by going the the Site Pages on the left side of the Home page. If you have not yet had an opportunity to sign-up for a time slot, contact John Moran, or the sign-up sheet will be at this and next week’s meetings.
A great project that supports those in our community in need .... and .... to meet and greet your Skaneateles friends, while providing Service Above Self while serving your community.  Check the schedule .
