BARTEK GOES FISHIN' - June 14 - Robyn treated Bartek to a bit of fishin' today.  Results: One very happy fisherman with one "whooper" perch.
LAST WEEK: ... by Bill Conole
Youth Exchange Farewell - More than 50 people showed up to bid a fond farewell to our three inbound exchange students. Host families for our three exchange students joined our members to hear our exchange students reminisce about their experiences in Skaneateles.
Kata - Lee Bennett first introduced Kata Hura exchange student from Finland. Kata presented a slide presentation on  many beautiful sites in Finland, her hometown & on her family. She expressed yer thanks to her Finnish Rotary Club for sponsoring her to come here & thanked our club how warmly we received her & helped her adjust to the US. Members chuckled when Kata described her sponsoring Rotary Club in Finland a “ not being very big & made up of mostly old people”. Kata briefly contrasted Finland’s vaunted educational system with the educational system here. Kata warmly thanked her host families by presenting them with bouquets of flowers.
Bartek - When Lee Bennett introduced Bartek he noted that by playing basketball & engaging in other vigorous sports & activities our exchange student from Poland, Bartek has gained 17 pounds of muscle.  Bartek thanked the many people who hired him so he could earn money for his tour of the US. Bartek expressed his gratitude to our club for sponsoring him & for their many acts of kindness. Bartek thanked his host families by presenting them with bouquets of flowers.
Marcus - Lee Bennett introduced Marcus from Brazil, by noting that he had to work very hard to gain proficiency in English.  Marcus humorously conceded that for the first three months here “he could not understand anything!” He thanked his teachers & classmates for being so patient with while he mastered English. Marcus noted that Karin Price, Lori Ruhlman & Bartek were particularly supportive during this trying period. He amusingly told the story about how recently his host mother asked him to weed her garden where his vigorous weeding inadvertently included some of his host mother’s prize flowers. Fortunately Marcus was able to replant these flowers. Marcus presented bouquets of flowers to his host families.
Calven - Returning outbound Student Calvin Bohrer briefly described how much he enjoyed being an exchange student in Hungary. Calvin promised to return later in the summer to share these experiences with us.
From left, Calvin Bohrer, just home from Hungary; Kata, here from Finland; Sophie Darovskikh (headed to Finland); Marcus, Bartek and Mason Drastal (who went to Brazil as an exchange student ten years ago).
Our 50/50 Winner exchange student Bartek.
Our Guest -   Andy, Ellen, Jack & Julie Legg; Jon, Jon & Jacob Peterson; Mary Stevens, Todd & Jill Marshal; Tom & Jessie Wingfield; Tonya & Jason Beruski; Calven & Emma Bohrer; Marlene Stenuf; Mason Drastal; Janie & Alexander Darovskikh
