BOOKLEGGERS NEEDED... by Cheryl Silvestrini
Volunteers needed to pack books at the Jordan Fall Festival on Sunday, September 16th. We should be at the book tent by 4 pm to start packing all the unsold children's books and any other books we can use. We also need an SUV or pick up truck to leave the packed boxes in until they can be brought to Ace Hardware on Monday morning. As you know, many hands make light work. To get directions to the festival, you can go to villageofjordan.org/fall-festival. The address of the festival is 25 N. Beaver Street, Jordan, NY if you prefer to use your phone for directions. Membership- This year there will be a great deal of focus on attracting & retaining new members. I ask all of members to join me in this most worthwhile effort. On Saturday September 15th, Umesh & I are attending a Multi-District Regional Membership Seminar in the East Syracuse Fire Department from 9-2:30PM. It will be every interesting tp learn how Rotary Clubs from other Rotary Districts are successfully attracting & retaining new members. Attracting younger members is even more challenging. Please contact me if you'd like to join Umesh & me in this Multi-District meeting in nearby East Syracuse.
Rotary Leadership Institute - VVS High School, Verona, NY---Saturday September 22, 2018. Umesh, Ward, Doug & I are going to the RLI Meeting on the 22nd. Attending the Rotary Leadership Program is a great way for members to gain more knowledge about Rotary & how other Rotary Clubs are meeting today's challenges. Some of the focus on this year's RLI is on membership.

The Beginnings
Thanks- President Bill Conole opened the meeting by thanking everyone that helped with the Volunteer Firemen's Field Days, reminding us of the valuable service the VFD provides to the community.
Wine Stopper Raffle - Ward announced that three club members were eligible for the "I found it" wine stopper raffle. Alice Purdy, Kathy Crelot and Mary Giroux all found the link in the club newsletters. To be eligible in the future just click on the link and an email to Ward will pop up. Send the email and you will be in the next week's draw. Kathy Crelot is the proud owner of another unique stopper crafted by Ward.
Exchange Students - Gard Lorey introduced our two exchange students for the year: Tymon Juncesicz from Poland and Han Gahyeon from South Korea. Tymon presented the club with a Rotary banner from his hometown club.
The Program
Clear Path for Veterans Canine Programs - Lynn Fox, Outreach Coordinator for Clear Path for Veterans spoke about Clear Path's origination, growth, services and mission. Lynn also thanked our members that served in the Armed Forces and extended a warm invitation to all to visit Clear Path for Veterans. A brief video was shown during which a number of testimonials by veterans were given attesting to Clear Path's support of Veterans and their families.
Ryan Woodruff, former Marine, spoke about how Clear Path affected his life leading him to his present position as the Dogs2Vets Program Manager. Ryan spoke about the canine programs at Clear Path. Ryan introduced Glory, a nine month old Labrador retriever who is currently being trained in the Service Dog component of the canine program. The primary goal of the Dogs2Vets Program is to provide Service and Emotional Support Dog training to Veterans diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress or Military Sexual Trauma. There is a human- canine bond formed through the training process. Currently the wait list for a Service Dog is two to three years. Harley's Heroes is a new program being offered which provides a viable alternative to Veterans that are invested into the theory of the human-animal bond as well as the healing power of animal training. Harley's Heroes helps Veterans establish a foundation of communication with their currently owned or matched dog from a partnering shelter. Ryan spoke of the need for both long term Foster Puppy Parents and Flex Foster Puppy Parents and welcomes those interested to apply.
Erin McDonald, Dogs2Vets Trainer also attended the meeting.
After Ryan's talk Glory was asked to demonstrate some of her training. However, after being asked to stay still for an hour and a half she was not in the cooperating mood. After all, she is still a young pup!
Bookleggers - Cheryl Silvestrini asked anyone that can help pack children's books from the Jordan Library Book sale at the Jordan Fall Festival to be there at four o'clock on Sunday the 16th of September.(see notice)

Our Picnic to thank our 50th Anniversary Pancake Breakfast volunteers and to welcome our 2018- 2019 YE students, Tymon (Poland) and Gayheon (South Korea) will be Oct 4th @ St James from 6-8 pm. Our traditional buffet menu of pulled pork/BBQ chicken, vegetable and salads will be served. Asking Rotarians to bring their favorite appetizer- always makes our Social Hour so very special.
