Jan needs your Thoughts & Prayers ... by Lee
We are sad to announce that Ralph Jurgensen's wife, Jan, has been in the hospital for a few weeks from pneumonia.
Ralph is attempting to bring her home to start hospice care. We are in contact with their church, First Presbyterian Church, and stand ready to help if needed.
Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
PRESIDENTS' CORNER... by co-Pres., Mary
Lots of good news to report after last week's meeting. Last weekend's food drive netted about 4,000 pound....yes, that is two tons of food that was delivered to the Skaneateles and Spafford Food Pantries last Monday. Both were overwhelmed by the donations. We also received substantial monetary donations to be sent to each of the pantries. Thanks to Ward for organizing this and to all of the Rotarians that worked hard to make it happen! Rotarians reported that several people said "Thanks for doing this'"
The Pancake Breakfast Fund Drive for COVID relief for area food pantries and outreach programs is chugging along nicely. As of Thursday evening there had been 29 on-line donations totaling $3,430. And, our efforts made the front page headline in this week's Press Observer. Thanks to Lee, Tyler and Lori for all of their hard work and to all club members that are spreading the word..
Rosemary Mondo was a guest at this week's meeting and hopefully will become a member soon.
As I write this the West end of Skaneateles to Town Line Road looks a lot cleaner. An army of club members did a great clean up. It was nice to see so many participating. Thanks to Marv for all of his prep work and organizing.
We are getting a lot done during this strange time! Service project ideas were kicked around. Two ideas are a bottle/can drive and a shredding event. Ideas are welcome and we need a "project manager" or two to put them into action!
Thanks to all for a good productive week and see you next Thursday.

Hwy 20 - Whole Lot Cleaner Now... by Ward
Rotarians and friends gathered in the Hilltop parking lot Saturday for a morning's work of picking up trash and litter along Hwy 20, west of the Village to the County Line. The community project was organized by Marv Langley with equipment and hard hats supplied by the NYS Highway Dept. The turnout of volunteers was exceptional, which speaks to the need for folks wanting to get out on a nice day and serve their community during these days of isolation. The environment along 20 is now less a few car bumpers, some soda/beer cans and one diaper. (Look'n a bit cleaner1) Good cheer abounded and fun times were shared, with masks hiding the many smiles. Rotarians at their best.
Update on Successful Food Drive. .... by Ward Thanks to our many volunteer Rotarians, Interactors & friends, the Skaneateles Rotary Food Drive was concluded today (May 25th) with over 4,000 lbs of donated food going to the Skaneateles and Spafford Food Pantrys. In addition, there were $3,000+ monetary donations were received, which will be distributed to the two pantries. The outcome far exceeded our expectations, which speaks loads about the outpouring of love and generosity from of our community during this exception time of need. To all those who were able to chip in during their Memorial Day weekend and to the many Skaneateles folks who donated food and funds; our are hats off, and our masks and gloves remain on.
Thumbs up for Zoom ... by David Lee During this pandemic, Zoom meetings have kept our club from going dark.
As always, it’s great to see as many faces at our meetings as possible. You can attend with an I pad, smartphone or by computer. With video, or without.
If you have never logged on to a Zoom meeting, CLICK HEREfor a link to see a short introductory video.
Skaneateles Rotary Club members will receive a few days prior to the meeting an email with a link and information as to how to access the meeting. (Meeting ID and Password)
Think of a Zoom Meeting as if we were all present in the same room
Here are a few tips to enhance the meeting experience for all:
Arrive early– up to 5 minutes before the meeting start time, test your audio, video, get your beer, and familiarize yourself with the controls. When the host opens the meeting, everyone will be present and ready to start.
Check out your Environment - good lighting on your face. Avoid backlight. Adjust your camera so we can see more than the top of your head. Find a quiet space. Check your background.
Most important:
We can hear you! It’s really disruptive to the whole meeting when there is any background noise or side conversations. Leave your microphone on mute during the meeting. You can unmute or hold down the spacebar when you want to talk.
We can see you! If you have no pants on, stop the video before standing for the pledge
See You Thursday!
Beyond the Pancakes ... by Lori
The sad news is we are canceling our annual Father’s Day Pancake breakfast with the health and safety of everyone in mind.
The good news is we have come up with a way to raise money without having our traditional pancake breakfast, by utilizing an on-line fundraising service called Rallyup. (Please note: we originally planned to have a raffle option, but this has been canceled because it isn’t legal to do on-line in NYS).
The community needs are greater than ever as a result of COVID-19. 100% of the funds donated will go to local food pantries and school and community outreach meal programs. (Please be aware: because we are utilizing a free service, it may either prompt or attempt to add a tip to your donation. Look carefully for this and delete. We do not benefit from the tips; they go to the service).
Choose a donation amount, or create your own amount. At checkout, watch for the tip option and delete.
Share this with everyone you would normally invite to the breakfast (and more!)
Rotary will surprise some donors after the campaign by giving out some Skaneateles Chamber of Commerce gift certificates (thanks to donations from generous sponsors). This is intended to infuse dollars back to business owners who have been hit hard by the virus as well.
These are unprecedented times – our community needs Rotary more than ever! And we need your help to make this successful. In addition to donating, you can help by encouraging your friends and family to give as well. Please share this message in any way you choose (via email or Facebook or word-of-mouth!)
