Greetings, Skantarians! Next weekend several Club members and myself will attend the District conference. If there are any issues you would like me to bring up while there please see me this Thursday and express your concern or idea and I will pass it on. I hope the weather remains pleasant for this weekend and all are surrounded by friends and family. Thank you.

Engineers Without Borders -President Bill introduced Will Guida, third year engineering student, representing Engineers Without Borders which is an organization that works in underserved areas with local community involvement to design and build needed, sustainable facilities to improve quality of life. As an intern with Engineers Without Borders Will participated in a project that assessed the need for composting latrines for 300 students at a school in Las Majadas, Guatamala, designed the composting latrines and then built the latrines.
Will recounted some of the challenges including travel difficulties on bumpy roads through the mountains to reach the site, excavation of extremely rocky and boulder filled ground and material transport. Members of the project engaged the local community and learned some helpful techniques from the locals. Tangible results of the project are improved sanitation and disease prevention. Intangible but valuable end results are education and the good will established with the local community. Engineers Without Borders seeks to address practical needs with a broad and sustained effect on the community. William described an upcoming project which is reliable water distribution throughout the village. Members asked several questions and showed their appreciation to Will with a resounding round of applause.

Summary Notes of April 13, 2017 Meeting... by Ward
Your Board of Directors met last week and the following is a short summary of discussions points and resolutions.
Minutes of last BOD - meeting approved. They are posted on the website.
Membership - Kelly Hall's resignation was approved, as she will be relocating to NYC.
Membership - Membership applications were approved for: Marvin Langley, Chris Pateras, Ken Slentz and Jim Ciaccio (see notice above). Additional, the transfer of membership from Auburn RC to SRC was conditionally approved for Tim Donovan, contingent upon receiving a letter of recommendation from the Auburn RC.
Skaneateles Rotary Foundation financial statement, supplied by Kathy Crelot, was distributed and reviewed.
Donations of funds were approved for; The Community Band, Skaneateles Early Childhood Center, Baltimore Woods, Skaneateles Music Guild, Meals on Wheels & CC's annual Easter Egg Hunt.
Global Grant to Fight Addition - was approved by The Rotary Foundation, and SRC's previous committed $525 allocation to that project was released.
Off Site Meetings - Prez Bill informed us that we need to be off-site for the meeting of April 27th. He has explored some options we have used in the past, and got a warm reception form The Finger Lakes on Tap. Other off site options for future off-site meetings/events were discussed.
Next BOD Meeting - May 11th at 5 PM at the Sherwood.

COUNTING DOWN OF PANCAKES - While the annual Fathers Day Pancake Breakfast is still many weeks away, it is time to save the date on our calendars. Fathers Day this year is June 18th, so please mark that date in ink on your calendar, as well as the Friday AM and Saturday AM before for set-up, and Monday AM afterwards for tear down. This year will mark our 49th consecutive year holding our Club's biggest fund raising event, and we need every Rotarian to participate to insure its continued success!
