PRESIDENTS' CORNER... by Pres., Bill Conole
SURVEYS - Have to date received 8 surveys. SRC members, your opinions & ideas on how our club prepares for the future is very important to Pres Elect (PE) Doug & me. Please take some time to fill out the SRC Survey. Feel free to express any thoughts you have on the status of our club today & how we can better prepare for the challenges of the coming decade. FLEXIBLITY - is a readily definable word. How it is applied to Rotary & specifically to our SRC is not easy. When I recently attended our 2019-2020 Empire State Multi District (MD) President Elect Training Seminar (PETS) our Rotary President Elect (RIPE), Mark Daniel Maloney, stressed the need for Rotary Clubs in the US to be more “flexible”. RIPE Maloney, a very successful tax attorney, titled his keynote address “Together We Connect, Together We Grow”. His speech was a stem winder. Throughout RIPE Maloney’s speech he emphasized that, even in these changing times, Rotary clubs can better connect with the communities they serve by reviewing & where appropriate, relaxing some of the hoary Rotary rules. Our recent District Governor (DG) Peter Cardamone & our current DG Marv Joslyn strongly endorse RIPE Maloney’s emphasis on the necessity for clubs to become more flexible. The primary objective of our SRC Survey is to seek input on this issue of determining if our club needs to join other Rotary Clubs in becoming more “flexible”. Please plan on attending next week’s Club Assembly so we can fully air this matter. PE Doug & I value your feelings on this issue & seek your guidance. ROTARY INTERNATIONAL (RI) WEBSITE - SRC members seeking current information on how RI defines “FLEXIBILITY” can go to ---https://my.rotary.org/en/search/all/attendance%20requirements%20for%20 meetings
To be better prepared for next week’s Club Assembly discussion, please go to the above cited RI Website.

St. Baldrick's was a success with our recent speaker Bodie centore raising over $30,000 for pediatric cancer research.
THE PROGRAM - Safe Youth Football Helmets
President Bill introduced JD Delmonico, our speaker from the Skaneateles Youth Football Program. JD's son Ben, Alex Planer and his mom Jessica, and Jason Long were also introduced. Ben and Alex are participants in the program and Jessica is a Board Member. Jason coaches and is also a Board Member. The group includes youths from kindergarten through sixth grade from the communities of Skaneateles and Marcellus. The group works with about 80 players and 20 cheerleaders developing football skills. Children under third grade play flag football, third and fourth graders are introduced to tackle and fifth and sixth graders play a harder tackle game. Safety of participants is a prime concern and to that end the organization is replacing their traditional football helmets with helmets which contain technology that detects and reports hits that could lead to injury. Sensors in the shell of the helmet monitor impact. Alex talked about the impact an injury in last year's season had on him. Ben and Alex brought helmets to the members for us to see their construction. Funds are currently being raised to purchase helmets which cost about $500 each.
Pictured are: Ben & Alex wearing the new helmets with Jason Long.
