Your Board of Directors met on Nov 3rd. The following is a brief of the discussions and actions taken.
Attndees: Ed Evans, Jay Stith, Mary Giroux, Andy Stevens, Dave Lee, Duane Weaver, Mike Tierney, Dale Drake, Doug Hill Marv Langley (Rotarian/Foundation Board) and Bill Buterbaugh (Rotarian/guest)
  • Call to Order - President Ed Evans called the meeting to order at 5:00
  • Club Finances - Marv reported on Foundation finances as of Oct 31, 2022.  Duane reported on Club financials for the 12 month period ended June 30, 2022.
  • Worthy Causes - The Board approved a donation to Laker Limo for their capital project.
  • Holiday Basket Dinner - The dinner will be held at the Skaneateles Country Club on December 8th.   Each Club member is asked to fill a table for this dinner which benefits the local food pantries and the Outreach program to help fill their holiday needs.  The format will be a little different with a silent auction replacing the raffle.
  • Service Projects - Jay updated the Board on future projects which include: Election Day Lunches to poll workers (November), Holiday Basket Dinner (December) and Salvation Army bell ringing at Tops (December).  Ed reported that the Dictionary Project was a great success with the third graders!
  • Meeting adjourned by Ed Evans and next meeting to be held on Thursday, November 17th at 5:00 at The Sherwood.
The Dictionary Project
Craig coordinated the Dictionary Project this year and reports are that the dictionaries were a great hit with the State Street third graders!  Ed, Ayham and Craig passed the dictionaries out and quizzed the students about Rotary........and they knew about Rotary!  Perhaps we have some future members!
Bookleggers
Bookleggers were hard at work last week.  Gary, Ward, Marv and Ed readied another pallet packing 24 boxes of books from Waterman.  They have already been shipped out.  Watch for future book packing dates from Gary.

Membership/Attendance  - 39 active members, 19 attending
Guests -Somak Chattopadhyay and Pia Sawhney from Armory Square Ventures, Chad Martin (friend of Jay's), John Paddock (Sunrise Club)
The Beginnings - President Ed called the meeting to order and led us in the Pledge.  Ed welcomed our speakers and visitors, and the following club business was covered:
Holiday Basket Dinner - The dinner will be held at the Skaneateles Country Club on Dec 8th.  Rotarians are asked to sponsor a table or a portion of a table. Craig asked that you confirm table reservations as soon as possible at cfroelich75@gmail.com or phone 405-517-8831.  Ed reviewed a list of potential donors for silent auction items and asked club members to solicit donors.
Salvation Army Bell Ringing - John Moran and Rosemary are coordinating this effort.  John passed a sign up around.  Bell ringing will be Fri-Sat-Sun of the Dec 9th. 16th and 23rd weekends.  Contact John or Rosemary to sign up (john.moran46@aol.com or rosemary@viamondo.net).
Foundation Giving - Bill B reported that a number of members have made donations to the Rotary Foundation.  Be sure to make your donation by December 31st for tax deduction purposes.  Send your check made out to "The Rotary Foundation" to Bill Buterbaugh at 103 East Genesee St., Skaneateles, NY 13152.
Adopt a Family - Marv reported that Skaneateles Outreach is asking for community members to adopt a family in need for the holidays.  Call Skaneateles Outreach at 315-283-4281 or 315-6850427.  Or you can make a financial contribution by sending a check to:  Skaneateles Outreach, 24 Jordan St, Skaneateles, NY  13152.
The Program - Ed introduced our speakers, Somak Chattopadhyay and Pia Sawhney, founders of Armory Square Ventures.  Somak and Pia founded Armory Square Ventures with an initial fund in 2014 and will be launching their third fund in 2023.  Investments are in promising startups from emerging tech hubs across New York State and the Northeast and include sectors such as food, agriculture, auto and digital health.  Currently the funds have over $100M under management.  Fund investors include individuals, pension funds, and institutions. Somak and Pia have an office in Skaneateles as well as Syracuse and New York.  It is great to have Armory Square Ventures concentrating on new and promising CNY businesses.
Closing -Rosemary led us in the Four Way Test to close the meeting.
