PRESIDENT'S CORNER ... by Prez Bill
Greetings, Skantarians! -  This past Thursday we put an exclamation point on our International Women's Day event by officially turning over the funds raised to Catherine James, CEO of the CNY Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. Catherine returned the favor by giving an excellent overview of the services her organization provides. Thank you one and all for your support of this event.
Board meeting next Thursday - see you all at the regular meeting afterwards. Thank you!
BOOK HIGHLIGHTS ROTARY'S ROLE IN ENDING POLIO ... from RI News Link
A new book in the field of public health highlights Rotary’s role in the global effort to wipe out polio, and places it in the context of humanity’s relentless struggle to contain the world’s epidemics.
In “The Health of Nations: The Campaign to End Polio and Eradicate Epidemic Diseases” (Oneworld Publications), British journalist and Sunday Times best-selling author Karen Bartlett surveys the global landscape of epidemics past, present, and future. Beginning with the 1980 eradication of smallpox, she guides us through more timely threats such as the Ebola and Zika viruses, and looks ahead to a future without malaria, measles, or polio.
LAST WEEK: .... by Bill Conole
The Beginnings - Prior to dinner Ward awarded Mary Giroux with a hand crafted pen because she was the first member to find & click in for the "reader's drawing" in the weekly Skanartian newsletter.
3rd Annual IWD - Before introducing our speaker Amy Tormey reviewed how very successful our club's 3rd Annual International Women's Day was. This year all of the proceeds were donated to the Alzheimer's Associaion. Amy noted that Rotary International, after successfully combating Polio for decades, plans to shift it's focus to combating Alzheimer's.
CNY Alzheimer's Associations - Our speaker Ms Catherine James, CEO , of the CNY Alzheimer's Association open her presentation with a brief overview of the history Alzheimer's. Although considerable progress is being made, much research is still needed to develop more effective treatments for Alzheimer's. Many experts advocate an active lifestyle that keeps our brains engaged & our bodies fit as the best preventive measure to ward off, delay & or mitigate Alzheimer's. Cathy James thanked Amy Tormey & her committee & our club for their $6,000 contribution to the Alzheimer's Assn & urged everyone to please continue to support efforts to combat Alzheimer's.

RANDY WILSON - PROPOSED DGND .... by DG Peter Cardamone.
Pursuant to Article 14.020.6 of the Rotary International Bylaws, I am pleased to announce that the Nominating Committee for District 7150 Governor has recommended William Randolph (Randy) Wilson of the Sauquoit Rotary Club as the proposed DGND for Rotary International District 7150 for the 2016-17 Rotary Year (to be District Governor in the 2019-2020 Rotary Year).
See (CLICK HERE) the formal announcement and brief Rotary Resume attached to learn more about Randy Wilson.
I am required to remind the clubs of the district that Article 14.020.8 of the RI Bylaws states that “Any club in the district … may also propose a challenging candidate for governor-nominee provided this club has previously suggested such candidate to the nominating committee. … The name of the challenging candidate shall be submitted pursuant to a resolution by the club adopted at a regular meeting. The club must file the resolution with the governor by the date determined by the governor. Such date shall be not more than 14 days after publication of the announcement of the selection for governor-nominee by the governor.
Therefore, any such challenge to this nomination must be submitted to me by April 21, 2017. (Please submit any challenge to me in writing at 6368 State Route 80, Tully, NY 13159 or by email at peterf7150@gmail.com).
SAVE THE DATE - While the annual Fathers Day Pancake Breakfast is still many weeks away, it is time to save the date on our calendars. Fathers Day this year is June 18th, so please mark that date in ink on your calendar, as well as the Friday AM and Saturday AM before for set-up, and Monday AM afterwards for tear down. This year will mark our 49th consecutive year holding our Club's biggest fund raising event, and we need every Rotarian to participate to insure its continued success!  ... Thanks, Mary
