Trading Banner - RC of Dublin Central ... by Ward
Amy Tormey returned last week from her visit to Ireland and presented the club with a trading banner she obtained a the Rotary Club of Dublin Central. She shared that the club was not a dinner club, but meet over a glass of wine. Dress; smart casual. No Jeans. Gents: jacket required but tie not. They also celebrated International Women's Day as Amy initiated in Skaneateles Rotary this past spring. Check here website by CLICKING HERE.

LAST WEEK: ... by Bill Conole
Sir Nicholas Winton - Bill Conole briefly spoke on the illustrious life of Rotarian Sir Nicholas Winton who recently passed away at 106. Nicholas was a British humanitarian who organized the rescue of 669 children from the Nazi Death Camps in Czechoslovakia on the eve of the WW2. Nicholas personified Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self” by never seeking credit for his heroic exploits. Only after his wife found out about his actions in 1988, did Nicholas receive the recognition he so richly deserved.
Moment of Silence - Bill then asked for a moment of silence to honor the four US Marines who were slain in Chattanooga earlier on Thursday.
Calvin Bohrer (returning YE Student) - Calvin opened his presentation by thanking our Skaneateles Rotary Club for giving him the opportunity to go to Hungary , for a year, as a Rotary Exchange Student. Calvin noted that he “got to experience a whole new world.” Early on in his stay Calvin faced the steep challenge of learning the basics of the difficult Hungarian language. He also had to rapidly adjust to a different culture. Calvin said being immersed in the Hungarian culture afforded him the opportunity to learn more about the language & culture. Over time Calvin became more comfortable & was able to interact more with those around him. Calvin vividly described the customs & food of Hungary. Calvin said his time in Hungary was one of the best years of his life. Calvin again thanked our Skaneateles Rotary Club for making his rich & rewarding year in Hungary possible.

eClubs - TRY THEM, YOU'LL LIKE THEM - For those of us the want to stay in touch with Rotary but are unable to make all of our club meetings, a Rotary eClub is a great option. They are a source of excellent information, project ideas, a window into Rotary activities around the world, and they qualify for an attendance make-ups. You can find time by going to the RI website's Club Finder, which you can find at the top of site's home page, or access direct at; https://www.rotary.org/en/search/club-finder I have visited many eClubs when I am at our condo in Cedar Key, Fl (kinda remote to any Rotary Club). One of my favorites, and very complete eClub is the; Rotary eClub of Southwest USA at: http://www.recswusa.org/ . Youth Exchange Welcome Home Dinner
All students who have recently returned from abroad will be the guests of the Youth Exchange Committee at the dinner on Wednesday, Aug. 5th, at The Rusty Rail, Hwy 5, Cananstota. The cost for Rotarians and family members will be $18.00 per person with advance registration by July 31, 2015, $23.00 after July 31st, or $25.00 per person at the door.

Double Days Rotary Event - Sunday, Aug 30. at the Double Days ball park in Auburn. Gates open at 4 pm. The cost is 25 dollars a person and that includes: The ticket, food, beverages. The seating is on the third base side under the tent. Bring your family and friends for a great day at the ball park. 2015-16 Skaneateles Rotary Youth Exchange
The 2015-16 Rotary Youth Exchange Outbound students have been selected and will be departing this summer for a year as exchange students abroad. They are: Sofia Darovskikh, going to Finland, and Zach Driscoll going to Germany. We congratulate them upon their selections and wish them all the best on their "adventure of a lifetime".
Our Inbound students will be: Daniela Fadic Contreras, from Chile, and Vincent Lambert form France.
