PRESIDENTS' CORNER ... by Pres., Bill Conole
TRIBUTE TO VAL COLLINS ROTARY DISTRICT 7150 SECRETARY
Yesterday Ward & I attended Val Collin’s funeral in Moravia. Val was an extremely active Rotarian. Val was a member of the Moravia Rotary Club where she was a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, & was twice Club President. For the several years Val served as the District Secretary. At the time of her passing Val was the District Polio Chair. Val & her husband Tom were among the most active Rotarians in our District & beyond. Please join me in expressing our club’s condolences to Val’s husband Tom & to the Moravia Rotary Club.
HAUNTED HALLWAYS - Thanks to Brad McLennan for setting up & coordinating our club’s participation in the Skaneateles High School Haunted hallways on Halloween Day October 31st. This is always a fun event for everyone.
SKANEATELES GIRLS LACROSSE – are honoring our veterans this year in Shotwell Park. A special ceremony will be held at Shotwell Park on Monday November 12that 11am. You can be part of this ceremony by purchasing an American Flag in memory of, or to honor a veteran. These American Flags will be displayed in Shotwell Park from Nov 2nd-Nov 13th.
SALUTE TO WARD - It is often asked, “can one person make a difference?” By singlehandedly raising $16,000 for Polio Plus over the past 2 years Ward’s actions confirm that, yes, one person can make a difference. Last evening our club presented Ward with a plaque proclaiming Ward a “Polio Hero” for his ceaseless efforts to raise money to eradicate Polio. Ward is an inspiration to all of us.

The Skaneateles Rotary Club’s Annual Christmas Fundraiser will be held on Thursday, December 6th, at the Skaneateles Country Club. We will begin with a happy hour at 6 p.m. followed by a family-style turkey dinner at 7 pm. Tickets are $30 and can be reserved in tables of 8 or 10. Contact Amy Tormey at tormeyesl@verizon.netfor reservations.
Don’t Forget…The organizing committee needs our Rotarians’ support in securing raffle prizes. The goal is to have at least 50% of attendees win a prize. While local merchants and professionals will be canvassed again this year for donations, all Rotarians are also asked to donate prizes such as a bottle of wine, a gift card, etc. Please let Roy MacDonald or David Piper know in advance of the event what you will be bringing in the way of a prize. Even if you can’t attend the event, please contribute a raffle prize.
200 Club Fundraiser... by Cheryl
It may not be as exciting as cracking eggs or flipping pancakes, but the “200 Club” Raffle is an easy way to raise money to benefit community and youth groups. Here’s how it works: we sell 200 tickets at $20 each for a total of $4,000. We give away $1250 in prizes which leaves us with $2750 to use for worthy causes.
We will sell tickets starting 10/18/18. Two $50 prizes will be drawn at our Club Meetings on 11/15, 11/29, 12/13, 12/20, and 1/3. On 1/10, we will draw a $250 winner, as well as the $500 Grand Prize winner. Also, all weekly winners will be put back into the raffle and be eligible for the Grand Prize!
We need to sell all 200 tickets for this raffle to work as outlined, so please consider selling at least 5 tickets to family, friends, co-workers, etc. – and don’t forget to buy your own! Cheryl will have tickets available at all weekly meetings. If paying by check, please make payable to Skaneateles Rotary Foundation. Be sure the contact information is completed on the ticket and give that portion of the ticket to Cheryl along with ticket money/checks. Thank you and good luck to everyone!
